TxJim,

You are correct that those were not in the kit. I was and am planning on replacing them, as well as considering replacing the seats that the lifting and lowering valves mate to, T28538.

I read through the service manual last night so I know what I am getting myself into. It does not look all that difficult really, well with in my capacities.

Can you send me the name and info for your dealer. I buy parts in Texas and pay the freight if it will cost me half of what it is up here. Heck, I get all my JD parts from them if need be. This is the only green tractor here, but I got two 336 bales, and help keep several others going for the neighbors.

The most difficult part is getting L/D control cam back in correct position upon reinstalling RS housing.

The project is finally done. Once I got into it, it was really pretty easy. Total time from start to finish was about 4 hours. The oring packing and the nylon or teflon backing on the actual spool valve was gone on the lifting valve. It worked as intended when I tested it after it was done. Thanks for the help folks.

Glad you got it repaired. I'll bet the hyd's will operate better with one less internal hyd leak.

AK,

I am not sure if I got done early for 2012 or if I am really behind from 2011. Oh what's the difference, it is done and seems to work fine. Hydraulic pump seems to be doing better also not that leak is gone.

Barry, not sure how I missed this thread, but glad you got it fixed. These rockshaft valves are actually pretty simple. A few orings, gasket, and seals is all you typically need to repair. You had mentioned earlier about replacing valve seats. Did you end up replacing them? I don't think I have ever seen any that needed them.

I'm with you. I've never witnessed any JD utility RS control valves that required replacement.

No, the valve seats were fine. When it went back together, the valve seat went in, then I put the other seat like part in, and then I put the spool in. Needless to say that did not work till I figured out that I had it wrong. Took a little while for this dummy to get it, but I got it together okay. Have had a little more time running it now, and it seams to be doing WAY WAY WAY better since it does not have that high pressure leak any more.
