1500D head gasket

Morning all. Just looking for any advice on replacing the head gasket in my 1500D. I started getting coolant in the oil the other day. It seems that a stud may have loosened in the cold weather. The head is off and I have checked it with a straight edge. It checked out straight. At this point I'm thinking I'll replaced the gasket and run it. Any thoughts on sealing the stud threads before reinstalling them? Thanks for any thoughts.

Thanks Careyo. I think it's just age and the cold that allowed one stud to loosen.

Has anyone gone back to retorque the head after running it for a while. Friend of mine suggested it but I don't see the need. Plus doing that means doing a valve adjustment again since there's not enough room for a socket with the rocker assemblies on the head.

Thanks again Winston. Hope to have it up and running today. Going to see how it likes running a chipper. It's a bit underpowered but only doing mostly pine.

I think its a good idea. Maybe 50 hours after a head gasket then every 10 years/1,000 hours.

I did a major checkover on my YM240 (YM2000) after several years and found uneven valve clearance. Checking further, there was one head bolt that went a half turn before it met spec that might account for this. Neither of these had caused any other problem but it seems like they could eventually.

That's a good suggestion. I think that would be a smart thing to do in the future. I would not mind checking them before adjusting the valves every year. I have never adjusted the valves before this point. I probably should of. They were a bit tight.

I had a similar problem on my YM1500 and the culprit was the engine or sleeve O-ring on one cylinder allowing the coolant into the oil. I replaced the head gasket, but my old one looked OK. Maybe I had it explained to me wrong, but I haven't had any problems since replacing the O-Rings.
