Looking at an older model Howse batwing cutter. Does anyone have any experience with this cutter? It is older, heavier constructed machine.

Not the batwing, but my cousin had a 5' and currently has a 6' Howse. And, we both have a 6' Howse finish mower. The older Howse stuff seems to be solid, almost over-built.

As with any used cutter, the most important components are the gear boxes. I would caution you that the "splitter" box for just about any flex-wing cutter will cost several thousand dollars to replace. Perhaps even more than you paid for the cutter. :( Also remember that you could be looking at a few hundred $$ just to replace the blades and bolts. And, all of those U-joints and driveshafts take a beating on a flex-wing when mowing uneven ground.

Not trying to discourage you, just wanting to give you a realistic picture.
