Can anyone tell me what would make my blades turn themselves off while mowing. Sometimes it will happen several times within a five minute period and then other times it only does once or twice. In each case all I have to do is re-engage the PTO by flipping the PTO switch. After going through this little cycle it will then stay on until I flip the PTO off when finished mowing. I have checked the belt for proper alignment and wear and both are OK. I am concerned that there is a bigger problem and every time I re-engage the PTO it is doing more damage. Thanks for any help.

I'm not familiar with that model but most Cubs have a reverse cutout for the PTO and a seat actuated PTO cutoff.

Is it happening when you back up or are you mowing on some bumpy turf?

If not it could be a poor electrical connection in the PTO circuit, a corroded fuseholder or PTO clutch adjustment.

You might also check to make sure your ground wire is making a good connection and hasn't corroded or come loose from it's frame and battery connections. Most of the "safety cut-off switches" run on the grounding circuit on the mowers I have worked on in the past.

The switches that are seat and pedal actuated usually have a little "piston" that is depressed or released to activate the switch. Sometimes they get dirty and cruddy. Just spray some "electrical cleaner" - NOT WD 40, unless that is all you have 'cause it is residual and will collect more crud - around the piston area and on the contacts. It will evaporate quickly and should help to free it up if it is sticking.

Using a little "dielectric grease" on the connections and will help keep them clean of debris. Works great on the spark plug's threads and boot also.

Thanks for the replys. I mowed today and it only did it twice. I do believe it is a wire issue though because when it happened the second time today I barely touch the toggle switch and the blades re-engaged. Thanks again for the help
