1250 transmission

I have an older JD tractor 1250. Was sitting outside about 2mos. waiting to replace starter. Starter was replaced to learn headgaskit needed also. When finally started engine it runs smooth, however it will not go into gear. Clutch activates pto and can change gears, but when release Clutch the transmission doesn't engage. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Clutch needs adjustment. Rule of thumb is 1" of freeplay at the pedal.
