What are the differences between the MF 1200 and 1400 series?

1 noticeable diffrence is a live pto. massey dealer here said they lost a lot of sales on 1200 series because they had trans. driven pto. I would not have bought my 1428 if it didn't have a live pto! probably would have been green or blue. I installd rear hyd. valves and the 1233 has same hyd. block on trans. housing, mounts and all. I'm sure they changed other small things, but for the most part they are close to the same except for small updates.

I had a MF 1250 and now have a new MF 1440. They are completely different tractors. They do have some things similar, but are a completely different tractor. Most thinks from my point of view have been improved. The 1433 and larger do have independent PTO. I think, I don't have my paper work in front of me right not, that the 1429 is the only one that doesn't. If you want to know specific, please ask, there are to many to list.

Hey Neophyte,
I've made my decision, your turn? I got my initial info here:
Massey specs
Then off to my dealer to ask the real questions! The smaller 1200's were to limited for my beast of a farm (173 acres), but looked as nice, build-wise. They offer independant PTO on some models as well as hydro trans. Trans are only 6/2 on most models, 14's have either 8/8 or 16/16. Less deck comfort than the 14's - some are straddle and some are semi-flat, 14's are big & flat. The 1240,50 & 60 look more like the 14's, with 16/16 & flat decks. They will take the 1466 loader too, so the specs get closer on those tractors, but I still picked the 14....but that's me! Try 'em out, eh? I didn't really get into pricing on the bigger 12's, maybe I should have, but they weren't alot cheaper at first look. The 1433V (value) model was closer in price than mine.

Hope this babble helps....

The 1240, 1250, & 1260 have independent PTO but I believe that most of the smaller 1200 series did not.

So is the 1400 the more deluxe model? I guess I'm thinking in terms of Kubota B7800 vs B2910, JD 790 vs 4210, or NH TC30 vs TC33. Most companies usually all have a no-frills standard model and then a creature-comfort deluxe model. Am I right in thinking that the 1200 series is the no-frills standard model and the 1400 series is the creature-comfort deluxe model?

Looking at their website, it seems like most of the 1400 series don't offer hydro but most of the 1200 series do offer hydro. According to their site, only the 1417 and 1423 offer hydro. It seems that all their 1200 series offer hydro except for the 1233 and 1240. If the 1400 series is the deluxe model, then why wouldn't they offer more hydro models in this series? Is the information on their site out of date? Their website specs leave a lot to be desired.

Does MF make a deluxe model with hydro in the 30-35HP range?

I'll try to do one at a time.
1. The 1400 series is the replacement for the 1200 series.
2. The non-deluxe models have a "V" after the model number.
One of the smaller tractors, the 1428 is also a value model.
3. All models are available with hydro except the "V"'s and the 1428. (I think that I am right on this, I really need to dig my papers out.)(The web site and brochures bites, they don't tell everything)Yes they are out of date....
4. I don't think that you can order a new 1200 series any more. Unless you want a Caterpillar, their compacts are still the same as the MF 1200 series and will stay that way for a while anyway.

I think I got everything. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

JerryG stands for Jerry the Genius! I should know so much....My dealer did offer me a Hydro upgrade for the 1433 I am probably buying this week, I wondered about that when i didn't see hydro on the brochure. But they do have 'em on the AGCO ST35, which is virtually identical to the MF. Maybe the AGCO could be considered the deluxe Massey??!! They do have nicer fit & finish....Like I said above, the specs I got were basic (and old?) propaganda, even the dealer said that AGCO is working on it's market presence, that's why you never hear about 'em...ask the dealer lotsa questions...or ask JerryG!

JerryG,
i didn't look close on the lot, but do you think those were older leftovers I saw? The 1400 would be similar the 1240-60. I thought the specs were close, might be a deal there??

Also, I was comparing the 1433S to the JD4310 & L3130, was I wrong? Pricewise the 1433S is a deal compared to those two, but not if compared to the 4210...at least in here in NH.

Comments (and yes, i haven't had to tractor shop for a while!)

I don't know about that, but I have studied the Iseki import to the AGCO companies quite a bit.
As far as old stock, I think that they could very well be. I haven't ask if you could still order new 1200's or not, but a few months ago, when I ordered mine, my dealer talked like if I wanted a 1260 that he would have to get one from another dealer.
The AGCO value version has a "X" after the model number.
The spec. are close because 1200s and the 1400s use the same engines, but every thing else is different including the hydraulic flow.
