So if we can't use the on government land why are they regulating the exhaust systems and why tax us on them with the liscense fees, etc?

I don't need an answer, I know it as do you and most others here.

Sorry about hi-jacking the thread.

I have 6,632 acres of farmland, hardwoods, and swamps !!!!!

I regulate ALL this this property. I removed my spark arrestor & put it away in the shop. And will run over every inch of it >>>>
We don't have to worry about California regulations down here in Louisiana.
Don't have to worry about the wildfires that they do ....

Deisels don't need the arrestors !!!

I can understand much on the safety situations, but on some things, the Feds just go to far ~~~~

I put removing a spark arrestor on a diesel in the same category as removing the stamps off a mattress.
You ride your rtv the same place as you ride your mattress? :)

Fact remains that it is a law if you ride on federal land to have the arrester.
If you want to assume liability and tell other's to remove it that's fine.

Not everyone rides in the same places under the same conditions.

Hypothetically: what if the diesel had some type engine failure? Could it not produce embers out the exhaust?

Well it could also blow a hole in the side of the block and spew flaming oil all over brush and timber.

Not trying to argue with you and I agree that if you are on federal land you should play by the rules but I don't think doing it on your own land is such a bad thing.

I am not an expert on motors but Ford had issues with the 6.4L diesel shooting flames out the exhaust. The people smarter then me will know what was causing that problem and if it could happen even on a small scale with UTV diesels.

Sparks out the exhaust are a concern I have at times if I am in a hayfield of in my hay barn. I have people back their trucks in to load up and when they start their trucks to leave I stay behind for a little bit and then check things to make sure none of the chaff is smoking. It was something I didn't think about before until I read of someone losing a barn because of this:(

If my diesel fails I will probably be so beside myself that the cigar will fall right out of mouth and set the woods on fire. Incidentally, isn't smoking a cigar a crime in California too?:D :D
Like I said I don't/won't ride on Federal land in any case. Besides, now that I have the turbo as an effective spark arrestor I can avoid the 5 years in prison anyway. So I advise that all RTV owners remove thier spark arrestors and replace them with turbo's!!

The problem with the diesels is that the carbon builds up under load and breaks loose and can come out in large chunks. A good sized piece of carbon can carry quite a good amount of heat with it and will still be burning hot when it lands. Now the Kubota engines that we are using are fuel efficent and not like the older and larger smoking engines on some of the logging equipment around here. I can tell you that in our area most equipment in the field have spark arrestors applied and some even have on board engine compartment fire suppresion systems. It is probably the better thing to do and even if it does cause a fire on your own property you still have to pay the bill. And all this is in Oregon where we are soaked half the year and can't start a match with a torch.

My RTV1100 has 25 hours on it and is totally gut less. After seeing the photo of the plugged up arrestor, i pulled mine into the shop and pulled the arrestor out.
To my surprise, it was not plugged up at all. Not one hole in the screen was plugged. I cut it off anyway since don't use in on gov land.

I'm sure it will still run better since the screen looks really restrictive in its self.
