1070 will not start

No. 970 is 3 cylinder. 1070 is 4 cylinder on same framework. My 1070 did this problem activity. I replaced the two contact plates in the solenoid [ ebay ] and it returned to normal service, although I do recommend cleaning both ends of each battery cable. Search for Denso starter contact rebuild kit. Under $20.

Cannoncreek here, the guy with the original no-start problem. It WAS the ground. After a few hours of struggle trying to remove old ground bolt, finally drilled a new hole next to it and put in another ground cable. Two old guys in their 70’s thank you!! We are back in mowing mode.

Because mine gets wet in snow banks, I coated the cable bolt with blob of old grease. After fording irrigation ditches and plowing snow, no problems after the repair.
