I own a 1046 Cub for approx 2 yrs, this yr being the third. I was changing the plugs this spring, as I always do, and noticed the plug colors not being the tan color they are supposed to be. The plug on the left (when sitting on the tractor) was a chalky black and the one on the right was bright white. The motor seems to start and run ok. HELP!!

That one plug could have taken a slug of gas on it's last shutdown. If it runs smooth, powerful and without a miss, I wouldn't sweat it.

I wouldn't sweat it either. Sometimes the compression release floods up the one cylinder on shutdown, making the plug black. This is also a contributor to the exhaust backfire sometimes heard on shutdown.

What about the bright white plug? What would make it so white...there is no sign of tan. It looks like it is extreamly lean. I don't want to run the risk of screwing up that cylinder. Also, the plug that is black is a powdery (sp?) black, not wet.

Thanks.
