I purchased a 1 row cultivator from TSC (I believe the brand is Wallace). I used it to cultivate my 1.5 acre garden/mini farm. Wanted to know if others use a cultivator over a tiller to control weeds and any advice on operation. The only problem I had was when I went through the sweet corn rows, somethimes a "clod" of dirt would roll over the corn. I assume there is an optimum depth and tine spacing?

I have a king kutter brand but about the same thing. the first thing I did was take the points off and put on sweeps, this gets the weeds between the shanks, I only go as deep as the weed roots are to tear them out of the ground, with small crops I drive very slow and the taller and stronger they get the faster I can go. hope this helps

I have a friend who uses a cultivator like yours. He says that the faster you go the farther it rolls the dirt. I think DDT is right on the button when he says to go slow until the corn gets up a bit higher.

Thanks for the replys. I was trying to beat the rain the day I cultivated and I bet I went too fast - thanks for the advice. /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

Any recommendations on where to find the sweeps?

Thanks,
Eric

Any farm store will have them on hand. TSC ect. I got mine from a farmer that was replaceing his with new ones, I got a bundle of them. They also come in different widths, 4"-6" 7" or 8"
