If I go to larger more aggressive tire what kind of power loss can I expect to experience?

Re: \'06 John Deere Trail Gator

I have an 05 HPX Trail Gator. It is geared pretty low so I would think larger tires would be ok. As far as a more aggressive tire, is there a more aggressive tire?

I have looked at Swampers, Gators and Mud Lite all have a very aggressive tire. I'm looking for more gound clearence that a taller tire can bring more than anything else.

Re: \'06 John Deere Trail Gator

I have ITP Mudlites on my 2005 diesel Gator. They are larger in circumference and much more aggressive than the stock tires, and I can perceive no loss of power with them. That said, I have not had the stock tires on this Gator. I demo'd a gas model and decided on the diesel, but I think either would handle a moderately more aggressive and larger tire fine. The one other thing to think about: I went with the same size all around, rather than the smaller fronts as with the stock Gator. It really enhances the look and adds a bit of front ground clearance, plus you can rotate the tires based on wear.

What size Mudlites did you go with?

Have you had any problems getting it into and out of 4x4? Having the same size tires front and back may put your driveline in a bind, although it might not make a difference if you're in mud and the wheels can slip.

Re: \'06 John Deere Trail Gator

I only have seven hours on my Gator but I have had no problems except a flat tire due to a thorn that worked its way in. The new 4x4 switch on the dash works great. I also own an '85 4x4 truck. When you unlock the front wheel drive you put it in reverse for a few feet to unlock the hubs. John Deere recomends this also. I have practiced that procedure for a long time. It works well with the Gator also.
