04-05 Bobcat S185 won't start!!

I have a 04-05 S185 that won't start puffs black smoke but won't start!
Does this unit have a timing belt or is it gear driven?
Does it have a computer if so how do you read codes?
Has anyone else experienced this?

It does have a computer to monitor sensors and control hydraulics but does not control fuel flow other than turn fuel solenoid on/off. Puffing smoke means solenoid is opening and getting some fuel. If solenoid failed computer would sense it and turn off the starter solenoid signal so engine won't crank.
Check codes - turn key on then press and hold headlight button.
Timing is gear.
