    Unknown two wheel probably Chinese

Scientists estimate that horses were first domesticated 6000 years ago. Scientists also estimate that 5999 years and 11 months and 29 days ago was when the first horse race occurred which was immediately followed by a riot in the grandstands where half the crowd demanded the referee should be...

    BCS 853 Losing Power

This sounds like it could be diagnosed with a hair dryer blowing at the area for 10 to 15 minutes? A hair dryer won't fix the problem but it it runs properly after melting and drying everything out then it would be a pretty clear indicator this is the problem.

    GX 390 wet air filter

That doesn't look like "steel wool" to me. That looks like a wire link chain folded back and forth on itself. It looks like filter was dropped and the wire link chain separated at the folds. Zoom in with a large monitor and you can see the links in the wire braid. I doubt if any of the wire...

BCS 735 Acme 330WB engine rough running

I recall my Acme engine having a pretty free flow of fuel to the carb. What you describe does not sound normal. I use an ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning carburetors. It requires a pretty complete disassembly of the carburetor but does a good job cleaning out all the fuel and air channels. I...

    Zanon Mower

I think the Zanon has counter rotating blades that overlap, kind of meshing with each other so they don't leave an uncut strip down the middle. I think this is why it has such a hefty gear drive, so they don't crash into each other. Cool pictures, thanks for sharing! Seeing under the cover...

    Support-stand for two wheel -tractors: Available ? ? ?

Cool tractor! Where do you find such a beast? The videos sound German(maybe?). Just curious. A Googler search doesn't turn up much information.

    BCS 850 clutch issue

I would look at the clutch spacing on the motor shaft. At about 45 sec in this video it shows how to make sure the clutch is in the proper position on the engine shaft: 4 1/2" from the face of the engine adapter to the front of the clutch forks. I would also make sure that the forks are...

Replacement engine for BCS 948 tractor/tiller.

On my ancient Mainline BCS tiller the clutch was almost impossible to release with the hand lever. After a lot of tinkering I replaced the clutch cable then the clutch was easy to open with the hand lever.... just a thought. P.S. I have a 420cc HF motor on my ancient Mainline BCS tiller. I am...

Replacement engine for BCS 948 tractor/tiller.

I don't believe that my 948 came with any extra engine side weights. My 948 had been through a fair amount of "tinkering" before it made it to me so the weight might have previously been removed. My 30" combo motor with the 3" extension balances nicely with the new heavier 459cc engine. My...

Replacement engine for BCS 948 tractor/tiller.

There are 4 bolts holding the engine to the engine adapter plate. There are 6 studs holding the engine adapter plate to the transmission. 1) It is best to remove the 6 nuts from the studs holding the engine adapter to the transmission first. 2) Then slide the engine and clutch off of the...

Replacement engine for BCS 948 tractor/tiller.

It has been a little while. I forget where I left off. I went with the Harbor Freight 459cc Predator motor. The deeper I dove into the Honda motor that came on the tractor the more I found wrong with it. 3 of the studs were broken off of the engine adapter so there were only 3 left to hold...

2 wheel tractor dead man switches - what is your preference?

This is my emergency shut off switch on my late 70's Mainline / BCS 735. If the tractor is running away from me it is pretty easy to grab the switch and pull it backwards. It is not a dead mans switch but it works well for me when I need to kill the engine quickly or at my leisure without...

2 wheel tractor dead man switches - what is your preference?

I just ordered a new dead mans lever for the BCS 948. You guys talked me into taking it back to original.

Replacement engine for BCS 948 tractor/tiller.

I just spent a couple hundred on cables and a dead man handle bar lever. They should be her next week. All new cables should go a long way to getting her back in good shape. New motor and new cables should make is close to a new tiller.

Replacement engine for BCS 948 tractor/tiller.

Good advice. I had a heli-coil in the back of my mind. I have never done one before. I am a little worried about the compression release not working. I "think" that this might be fixed by adjusting the valves? I think it was over 40 years ago that my father showed my how to adjust the...

Replacement engine for BCS 948 tractor/tiller.

********************************** 735 ****************************************** Here is my first BCS, a Mainland 735 just in time for the first snow of the season today. I think it dates back to the 70's: The original motor was an Acme 10hp. About 25 years ago I bought the engine swap kit...

Replacement engine for BCS 948 tractor/tiller.

The (new) BCS 948: I ran the GX390 one time for about 5 minutes. Here is the puddle it left: Below is the leaking valve cover. I think the previous owner also messed with the valves and disabled the compression release which is why it is such a bear to turn over. The threads in the block...

2 wheel tractor dead man switches - what is your preference?

I bought the Honda mower with a blade clutch specifically so I wouldn't have to let the mower die every time I came to an obstacle. It does sound like I can do the same in my BCS 948 which should be fine for my concerns. I believe the BCS and Grillo work the same in this fashion.

2 wheel tractor dead man switches - what is your preference?

I recently purchased a used BCS 948 with a broken dead-mans paddle and disconnected dead-man wiring. I am putting the tractor back to factory-ish condition. Do you appreciate the dead-man paddle/switch on your 2 wheel tractor or hate it? I have been using a Mainland (BCS) tractor for 25...

Replacement engine for BCS 948 tractor/tiller.

Well here it is before I unloaded it. I thought I took more pictures after unloading but I guess I didn't Not shown is the 30" combo mower and several accessories like a furrower. After I got it unloaded I took the air cleaner off and disconnected the oil shutdown wiring. Man does this...

Replacement engine for BCS 948 tractor/tiller.

I picked the tractor up this after noon. It was about a 5 hour round trip drive. Man this thing is a beast! I have an old BCS tractor sold by Mainline WAY back when. I have had it for 25 years and it must have been at least 20 years old when I bought it. I thought is was a big 2 wheel...

Good point! Do you have a battery on your 948? Balance is something I will definitely evaluate after I pick it up before I decide on an engine.

Replacement engine for BCS 948 tractor/tiller.

I like the HF Predator engines and they have a great reputation. The 450cc Predator is really looking like the way to go. I am thinking the Predator 670cc V-Twin will be too heavy and possibly too powerful. At half the price I am thinking that the 450cc is going to be a perfect upgrade...

Replacement engine for BCS 948 tractor/tiller.

    Next Sunday I will be picking up a BCS 948 with a bad Honda GX390, tiller attachment (33" I believe) and a brush cutter for $1000. I have been investigating options for a replacement engine: 1) Rebuild the Honda GX390 - 69lb 2) Harbor freight 420cc 13hp Predator engine - 76lb - $389 3) Harbor...

Bought another used BCS this evening.

The tiller box on the 715 is the grey version with the depth control underneath like my ancient 735. I didn't go out to the shop to compare them but the tines on the 715 seem shorter than I remember the tines on my 735 being??? After I posted last night I gave the 715 a serious looking over...

Bought another used BCS this evening.

I think I was 12 or so the first time I ran a rototiller. My mother wouldn't let me operate the rental front tine tiller to break new ground to enlarge our vegetable garden... but my dad would. Some time later after I was off to college my parents bought a Troy built Pony. Man, was that nice...

    Slow mow build

I am tired of tinker toy mowers with little rubber band engines that always break. I am trying to figure out how to attach this: to this: I was thinking of pulling the main shaft from this: and stick it though the hole in the engine it came out of if I can figure out how to get the...

    Hydrostatic cylinder drive???

I have seen these little hydrostatic pumps at surplus center: https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2324022401522920&item=9-7686&catname=hydraulic at .43 cu inch they don't seem like they would be of much use in driving a wheel motor of any decent size/power. But at $129 for a dual pump...

Contemplating building a riding mower. Need help with design ideas.

I have a 20 year old John Deere F725 mower that I use to mow the 3 acres of lawn on my 5 acre property. It does a beautiful job and is much faster than my old mid deck mower BUT I spend almost as much time keeping it running as I do mowing with it. After the shell shock on the price of new...

Direct hydraulic drive rotary mower deck.

My 19 year old JD F725 is slowly petering out on me (About 2 acres of my personal lawn twice a week only). It is on it's second engine and the deck has many welds on it. I just got through replacing all the spindals with aftermarket clone spindals. Every imaginable jointed part is wallowed...
