    Kubota L4600 vs JD JD4105

MY uncle is looking at buying one of these beauties brand new. Dealers are right next to each other (Union, Maine) and have decent reps. cost is about the same too. Kubota is 46 horse vs the JD 42 but other than that the lifting specs, weight, features are about dead even. He is leaning to...

Can you put a Ford 7.3 Diesel in a International Loadstar?

Thanks guys, It would only make sense in this case if the Ford engine would have bolted right in and worked with minimal extra work. I doubt anything will happen now as the International is 36 years old, not as solid as I originally thought, and that 446 pulls pretty good even if it does suck...

Can you put a Ford 7.3 Diesel in a International Loadstar?

Well I guess the answer is no, the block castings for Ford are different that the DT 444. While adaptors can be made it might be more than I want to deal with. For the record, the 446 gas job does pull pretty well!

Can you put a Ford 7.3 Diesel in a International Loadstar?

Hi, Neighbor just bought a gas job (446?) '76 loadstar 1800 with a 5 speed. Sucks the gas! But it is an ex firetruck with a newer 14ft dump body with only 18k on it. He also happens to have no less than 3 rusted out late 80's/early 90's F-350's with the non turbo 7.3. Is that 7.3 a DT...

    L-2850 Front axle seals

HI, Out at the barn this weekend and noticed a fair bit of fluid draining from the bottom of one of my front axle portals. A quick inspection confirmed the bottom cap had popped off much like a freeze plug and that the other side was popped as well, but no fluid telling me I missed that one...

    Front mount snow blade

Bill. I like your setup and may very well copy it. After you replace the toplink with a chain, I wonder if a shock absorber or two would help give you some down pressure but also have some give? Welding a a piece of rr track to the blade might help also if you want down pressure. I think...

    Used Kubota wheels????

Hi, THe front wheels on my '85 Kubota L2850 are getting rusty and now chafe the tubes so they don't last very long. Tried some wire brush action but might be time for some new wheels. I am sure New Kubota wheels are way more than I want to pay. Does anyone know if there is a generic steel...

Renovation of an old Bank Barn

Dave, What is your intentions for the structure???? Oil & Fuel Stabil in gas mix

The problem is the virtually all gas these days, 93 octane included is now 10% ethanol and that absorbs moisture and that creates problems. If you can get Av gas, that would be a solution. Additives can help, but shutting off the petcock and running the motor dry is probably not a terrible...

    Make a post hole digger?

Homestead, I will look around the shop, but I did see a book from the 50's somewhere that had had a bunch of farm projects in it. ONe of them was a PHD and it used an automotive rearend as the gearbox. input was where the wheel would have been and the output was the "pumpkin" end. It sat...

    Navistar refiles suit against Ford

THanks DG, That clears up the cummins ford stuff. At least the myth was based on some reality. Now anyone know who makes the ulsd motors that Ford uses in Europe?

    Navistar refiles suit against Ford

Hi, As I understand it, Ford Stopped paying Navistar for a bit because Ford Felt NAvistar made the 6.0, s poorly, but Navistar's Counter is that Ford DESIGNED the engine so it is really Ford's fault. Is this true? IF so, maybe a Ford built 4.4 F150 motor isnt something you want to buy the...

    99 F350 4X4 engagement

Hi, I have an 02 f 350 with only the manual hubs, but I keep them engaged most of the time. I do disengage them before getting on the highway for a long trip, but My dually seems to spin if the only the humidiy rises, so I am always pulling the joystick. BUt I also was under the impression...

    3ph trailer hitch

It does seem folks like those things. I have seen them from the about $75-$300 depending on the design (some can take a gooseneck) Personally, I weld square reciever tube on most of my implements so I dont have to take them off just to to move a trailer around. Just pop the ball on and go.

    Another RR track piece question

Hi, My torch cuts look like poo-poo on track so I used my cold cut saw to cut my self an anvil and it made a nice cut, but it took some teeth off the $100 blade in the process. TO be fair the blade was at the end of it's life anyways, which is why I tried it, but I think it might shorten the...

Do you make your own biodiesel?

My concern with not heating the waste is that you run the risk of not cooking out the oven cleaner and wrecking your pump. Used motor oil and tranny fluid works to, but if there is metal shavings in there you wont be very happy for very long. Does that mechanic magnetize the tranny fluid?

3 point hitch with fork lift mass

Teg, ANy idea how big a tractor that was designed for? I dont think my CUT is cut out for slepping things around with that...if you know wha I mean. NOw if it had its own wide axle and an 8 ft tounge to leverage the weight of my tractor and I could use my PTO to power it, then maybe.

    Rotex Screener

I to am impressed with the 2x3 screen. Could you take a car or truck axle and flip it verticly and mount a rim that attaches to the screen on the outer edge so it acts as an eccentric and then connect a 10 horse or so (Or you pto if you had to) to the pumkin to act like the rotex? Support the...

Do you make your own biodiesel?

When you process (heat and treat) the grease to "biodiesel" you burn out alot of "junk" and you dont need a do anyhing to your diesel machine. Biodiesel does gell more readily in the cold and has less power, but it does smell a whole lot better. "Greasel" is when you only strain the french...

Do you make your own biodiesel?

Ductape, I have been using a 40-50% mix all winter w/out troubs in my f-350 and tractor. I throw some anti gell in for good measure If you have to buy new oil then it is not cheaper, the waste oil is the way to go, but I too share concerns about waste availabiltiy in the future. THere isn't...

    box blad

Joe, I dont know offhand what model it is, but it doesn't have as many letters as yours. I understand they make different levels of quality and I assume I am at the bottom while yours is higher, but I still feel a 34 horse machine shouldn't be able to put a noticable deflection in a "40 horse"...

My tractor is 34 horse and I have a 6 ft Woods blade, which incidently I think is a POS. I have had to reinforce it despite the fact it is supposedly rated for 40 horse.

Real men play with unicorns (log splitter)

I have one of those things in the barn, but I have never used it.... I wonder if you could put it on a hyrdraulic motor and mount it either in a skidsteer or a mini excavator and run the unicorn into logs while you are safely away from it...could you back into a log mounted like that and split...

    Rotex Screener

Could you buy some 1" rebar and make your own screen and suspend it on some automotive coil springs and rock it with a rod connected to a riding mower wheel or car "steam locomotive style? Or is the thing worth $3000 in scrap steel? You said it is very used, but what is there to wear out on it...

    wood gasification

I agree... there have been some guys around here (but I haven't seen them personally) that have done their PU's they put a highter rear gear ratio to keep up with road speeds.but it didn't sound all that inconvienient. I think I saw a tractor in Farm show that ran on it also...old gas job.

    box blad

I think they were about 1/4 inch...they were pretty stout and they mounted so solid I thought I could get away w/out bracing them, and that was of course my great undoing. They were fine just going straight ahead, but going around a curve did me in....but come think of it, the plates didn't...

    Another foot of snow today

John, I only use the front blade for clean up or pushing straight ahead into a pile. I have quite a bit of driveway between my place, out to the mill and up to my parents. on a one lane driveway I can use the wing and the rear blade angled the other way to clear a 12 ft path in one go, and...

    box blad

I did, but I didn't brace the ends back to the blade (and I knew I should) and bent the edge of the blade pretty good. Some companies make ends speciffically for that purpose. Mine was some scrap steel plate (might have been some steel connectors for big beam construction) that happend to be...

    Semi Tires On Compact tractor

Hey, I used to have a neighbor in the tire bussiness and he hooked me up with used but not terrible tires for my dump truck for only $60 a pop (mounted on rims) so it may be worth checking with a big rig tire shop, but a hard shouldered semi tire might dig in more than turf tires

3 point hitch with fork lift mass

I have seen a few that basically work like a trailer. THe mast has it's own axle and wheels to take the weight and a bit of a tounge to help leverage heavy loads. A pto driven pump W/ a separate hydrulic system. If you had an exsisting lift you could cut it half and use the lifts' hydraulics...

    Another foot of snow today

Hi, Here is how I am dealing with the NH winter. I whipped up a wing blade for my machine just before the first snowfall this year and boy am I glad I did, It excels at "half mast" pushing back snow banks. I would have been doing alot more loader work if I hadn't rigged it up.

    Lamborghini/Mistibishi Starting troubs

Hi, First post here, and I am asking this Q for my neighbor....he has a 27 horse Lamborghini W/ a Mitso motor that is increasingly hard to start in the cold. He has a 50/50 mix of Kero/diesel, and he has tried the ol' glow plug it twice(Or three or fourX) before starting. It will run fine...
