The pump draws less amps when dead headed because it's not doing any work. Moving water is work, building pressure really isn't any work, the impellers are just spinning.

Be careful dead heading the pump. The pump may make enough pressure to blow stuff up. The motor is water lubricated and water cooled. It needs to have water flowing past it to keep it cool. If there is no water flowing thru the pump long enough, it will melt the guts of the pump.

I don't think a smaller zone valve will cure that.

Simple, use a gate valve. Much easier to control. More costly, use a pressure regulator such as a watts U5B. Or, change nozzles so every zone uses the same amount of water.

Picked up a Ryobi 14", 40 volt battery chain saw.

I bought a 5 hp, electric from Northern tool. Perminantly mounted it in the basement, hard wired it and ran a line into the garage to a Cox Reel with 50' of hose. When I need it, I turn on the switch and pull down the hose. It's as good as any gas I've ever had and it way more convenient to use.

Gas stations are one of the few places I use a CC. For my business, I don't expect cash, but we certainly will except it. Most pay with a check. Some people are happy to pay the 3% we surcharge to get their points (duh).

Started in the family business when I was 7. Got paid 10 cents and hour. Had to have a talk with my uncle. 10 cents an hour, 8 hours a day, 80 cents a day. Lunch at McDonald's cost me $1.00. Negotiated a 150% pay increase. Went form 10 cents to 25 cents and hour.

I use a Pats. Had a quick hitch (more than 1 actually). Some stuff was compatible, some stuff wasn't. Some stuff was supposed to be and wasn't. I found I put it on for 1 attachment, then had to take it off for the next, then put it back on for the next. Much happier with the Pats.

Jrob, what speed do you run the PTO at? That thing is really throwing snow. My MK Martin at a shaft speed of 540 doesn't throw the snow nearly that far.

I'm not worried about the blower, but the tractor driving through 19" of snow. I find myself turning around to look at my inverted blower a lot. Still turning around.

A big part of depth needed is the material under the concrete. If it's clean and well compacted, you won't need as much. If it's loose material that is going to shift underneath, or there are rocks that the frost is going to move around, the thicker, the safer.

Check codes for placement of the regulator, and who owns it. As you stated, at the house is easier to service, at the street protects the line. Is there any elevation difference from the street to the house?

If it's not a commercial vehicle, as long as it passes state safety inspection, I would think you are exempt from most of the above. In Mass for a while ALL pickup trucks needed to be registered as commercial vehicles. Warning devices are probably reflective triangle or road flares.

I agree, why two regulators? Check the pressure, you should be able to crank up the regulators, or eliminate them. They may have plumbed outside sill cocks in 1/2", not great for flow.

The filter manufacturer should be able to provide flow loss through the filter. Also, anything you have to push the water thru will slow it down. Filters, pipe, elbows ect. What are you plumbing the house with? Copper, horrible flow charachteristics, too many elbows, but pretty. Pex, much better...

1.25" is pretty big for residential. I would expect 1" filters should be fine.

When I build mine, 16' walls so I can put in 14' doors. Then you can pull in any truck, and with barns this size, that's a real possibility. Also great for resale value. If it's gonna be big enough to pull a tractor trailer into, you better be able to pull one in.

I figured out what engine speed to run my tractor at for all three gears. I.E, engine at 1200 rpm, pto speed at 1,000 equals 540 shaft speed. Now the problem is, the new diesels don't like to run at low rpm.

My tractor has three operations to make the PTO work. Three speed PTO 540 - N - 750 - N -1,000. If I kick it into neutral getting into or out of the tractor, it won't work. Then I have to select Auto - Off - Manual. Then I have to push the start/engage button.

Make sure the holes are well plugged, there will be water in there.

I used some 2" x 3" box tubing. Bolted it to the floor and bolted the seat to it.

I have an 8,000 pound hydraulic winch set up for the TPH. Not sure I've ever used it. Wait, I did to pull a 40' conex.

The one from Skillings interupts power to the pump. There is a water sensor on the floor. The unit is all self contained, no external power required. I agree 100% with Valveman about the low flow switch.

I saw the Chinese one. Still motor driven and the guy had to do a ton of work to it before he could use it.

So, I just ordered a 8" x 12" jaw crusher from MBMM. They said they are working on a PTO crusher. I would think for us tractor guys a PTO crusher would be great. I'd have bought one.

It's the voltage. And it's very lazy starting and never comes up to speed. The starting switch is probably engaging and disengaging. Eventually the thermal overload opens and the pump stops running. Nothing to do with water levels, single pipe or two pipe. Unless they melted the impeller from...

And as stated above, physics only allows a single pipe jet to lift water about 30' at sea level. Doesn't matter who the manufacturer is.

My first thought is the voltage. Most motors are multi voltage and easy to change. Check the incoming voltage, then check which way the motor is wired.

I have owned both and can't complain about either. My Branson probably had 1,000 hours on it when I sold it. My TYM 674 has about 65 hours. My TYM does not use DEF, I like that. My Branson didn't either, but it was considerably less hp. My TYM does not have a temp gauge, I thought that odd.

I can't think of a down side to loading the fronts other than the cost involved. More weight is almost always more better and loading the tires does not add weight to the axle.

Yeah, keep the speed up, lube the bucket and the fan on the blower. There are some good sprays out this just for this purpose, or even pam cooking spray. Consider a plow or snow pusher for the FEL. A plow you can angle and push snow to the side, a pusher is really only good in a straight line...

You may be right about OSHA pushing too hard, but the first time I get fined for being in a confined space, my customers are going to pay a lot more for my guys to get in that confined space.

Make sure the pit is big enough to get in and work. A 4' well tile would work nicely. Screen the end of the drain to keep out the rodents. While it may seem convienent to have the well in the pit, it makes it more difficult to service.

Still looking for a home for this. It's just a small box, Bolts to the back of the cab and hangs over the rear remotes, but not if you have more than two. I saw it at the dealer on a smaller tractor and took a chance it would fit.

Dowsing as JPRambo does. Hire someone with listening equipment to do leak detection. Isolate the line at 50% intervals and narrow the search. Replace it all, sounds like that is in your future anyway.

The gas pumps are not parking spaces. Neither is the space with hash marks next to the handicap spot.

My TYM has three rear remotes. Two of them are detent valves. Is there a way to "un" detent them? I.E., is the detent built into the valve, or the operating lever?

I have a Jacobson 3ph blower. I use it mainly for a drainage swale. Works great, it will blow away puppy dogs and small children. I rigged up a hydraulic deflector so I can straight out or down into the ditch.

It seems high engine speed is key. I'm old school and want to run that diesel at 1,000 rpm. Takes getting used to, to keep the rpm above 1,800 when the job at hand does not require that much horse power.

We always wondered why they didn't. It was a busy road too. Surprised they never got caught. Cops kept a good eye on the place too. There was even a boat on a trailer that got dumped behind the building.

I don't know the shelve life of scotchcote, don't think we've ever thrown any away because it was old.

We hand wrap a lot of splices. Butt connector, self molding rubber tape, electrical tape, 3M scotchcote. We put these splices down 1,000' under water, that's over 400 psi.

I bought a TYM tool box for my 654. Then when I added the third rear remote, can't use it anymore. It mounts to two of the bolts on the back of the cab. Anybody want it?

The tank needs to be empty of water to properly check the air charge. Period. The air charge should be 2 pounds less than where the pump turns on. Less air means more cycling. Too much air, as valveman stated will cause the pump to hesitate before the pump turns on. Cycling is bad for every part...

Shut the pump off and drain the tank. If you check it with the pump on, the air perssure will be the same as the water pressure. Shut the water off to the house first, there may be sediment on the bottom of the tank, drain it from the bottom. You may have to purge the tank a few times to rinse...

With the tank empty, you want the air pressure, measured at the top of the tank, 2 psi less than the turn on pressure. So, if the switch is set to turn on at 40 psi, set the air charge at 38 psi with an empty tank.

I do have a counter weight. I ususally put it on if I'll be doing a lot of loader work. But they squat way more than my R4's. Which I didn't like by the way. I'd like to try some R14's.

Max load is 2400 pounds. Probably pretty close with a bucket full. All my past tractors had R4's. Maybe I'm just not used to looking at R1's. Maybe R1's are for farm work, not loader work.
