    Changed battery in LS XJ2025H

The original battery was getting so weak, it would barely crank, after 9 years. It was a Rocket GB60L group 85 battery, hard to find. Today I replaced it with a group 24F with 710 CCA. After taking measurements, I had determined a group 24 would fit in the slightly oversized battery...

Maschio Jolly 2016 5 ft finish mower, Mahindra branded

I have some new bearings on hand from Brooks Ag Supply. Supposed to be able to just replace the bearings. I was wondering if anyone on here has had that experience. Thanks.

Maschio Jolly 2016 5 ft finish mower, Mahindra branded

I recently purchased this mower used, and I found some side play in the spindles, which may indicate they need to be rebuilt with new bearings. Has anyone on here ever rebuilt spindles on this model mower? They have a 4 bolt square pattern housing. A thin 25 mm slotted self locking nut is on...

Gov't mandates gas can flame arrestors.

The new gas cans....I simply remove the cap totally, and pour into a big funnel, when fueling my riding mowers. One mower holds 2-1/2 gallons, the other five gallons. It's a lot quicker than waiting for it to trickle from one of those nanny state can spouts, while holding up a heavy container.

Yellow Jacket Nests While Bush hogging, whats your plan?

It's happened to me a couple of times while push mowing. After running away, while getting stung initially, I wired down the handle, and left the mower running over the hole until it whacked them all.

    Hay theft?

A relative of ours has 60 acres of relatively poor grassland. They have a cabin/ shed on it. A neighbor went in without permission and made about 50 bales off it. They were planning to leave it natural and uncut. What should they do?

    Haying this spring

Haying is already about 4 weeks behind. If you go by the forecast, there has never been a window large enough to cut, dry, and bale before a rain. There was actually one window barely large enough a couple weeks ago, but rain that did not happen was forecasted. It looks like no hay this year...

How late is too late to cut and bale?

I have a nice hayfield of a little over six acres of mostly bottomland that is a mixture of Bermuda grass on one end and tall Johnson grass on the other end. A neighbor who hays in the area has been getting it for years, but has been so busy (he says) he hasn't made the last cut, and the grass...

    Propping up loader

I want to prop the loader up about 6 ft high to give more room for my mower to exit the shed. Would it hurt the hydraulics to prop up the loader with a 4x4 or 4x6 timber under the downturned bucket? This would be only during the mowing season, when I leave the RC on the tractor due to its...

    Bolt on hooks

I bought two blem hooks from Ken's Bolt On Hooks. Ordered on line Sunday. Delivered early this morning in the mail. Fast shipping! They were only barely blemished. I painted them this morning to match my tractor, and put them on this afternoon. Picture. Ken's Bolt on Grab Hooks <<Home>>

    Comfortable RPM for CUT/SCUT

What RPM do you run your diesel tractor when you are doing general chores, like hauling dirt in the bucket, and spreading gravel? I like to run 1600-1700, still plenty of power, and fairly quiet, compared to the 2430 RPM when the rotary cutter is in use. It seems to sip diesel very slowly at...

New Holland Boomer 24 and LS XJ2025H

I have the LS XJ2025H. I believe it's exactly like a New Holland Boomer 24. I have a nearly broken key. Does your Boomer 24 key look like this one? The New Holland dealer is much closer to me than the LS.

Hustler or Big Dog or Bad Boy

Update: I am leaning heavily toward a Hustler Fastrak 54" rear discharge with 23 hp Kawasaki FR691V. It will do more than I need, and last many years.

XT1 50" deck sucks up gravel

I have a driveway that's low grade asphalt, with lots of loose chat. I have had this XT1 50" for two years, and am looking for new blades, as the factory ones are getting worn. The factory blades suck up and throw small gravel, even with the chute down. I have been careful, but am leery of...

    Making a trailer lighter

I have an old PJ 5x12 single axle with side rails capped with expanded metal, and expanded metal covered tailgate ramp. It has a 2x6 board floor that will soon need replacement. I need ideas on flooring that will significantly lighten the trailer. It's so heavy that it is a pain to move by hand.

    Hay yield

Neighbor only got 22 large round bales off of 6.4 acres of my hayfield today. That seems to me like a poor yield. I think the soil is wearing out. It gets turkey litter about once every 14-16 months or so.

Put the rest of my garden out today

Set out the rest of the tomatoes, seeded zucchini, bush beans, and okra. Already had a few tomatoes out, plus kale, lettuce, radishes. Watered all the seeds in to germinate them. Do most of you water them in when planted, or just cover and wait for rain?

    Scary scenario

Yesterday, I was parked near a bridge between two steep hills looking at a local lake. There's a small gravel lot there where commuters park and ride. Two guys came in a pickup and 4 wheel flatbed trailer to get another partly disabled full sized pickup that was there. They finally got it...

    Rebuilding a retaining wall

I have an old rock faced masonry retaining wall that holds back about four feet of dirt. It is leaning, and will soon have to be replaced. About 36 feet long. Does anyone on here have experience with the prefab dry stack blocks that lock together like Legos? Or something similar. I don't...

Hustler or Big Dog or Bad Boy

Thanks. Suspension is a priority. My old ZTR doesn't have much, and my ground is rough from mole damage. After an hour or two I am a little beat up.

Hustler or Big Dog or Bad Boy

My old Husqvarna ZTR is slowing down, and I think the wheel motors are wearing out after about 12 seasons. After it quits, I will be looking for a smaller commercial grade mower (48-54") to mow about two acres once a week for our approximately 7.5 month mowing season. I want this to be...

Growing leafy vegetables on a pond

Hoping for some insight on this topic: Having three ponds within 800 feet of my house, I am thinking of growing some leafy greens using them, as in Kale, Collards, and /or Spinach. I would use a 4x8 sheet of high density foam with 2 inch or 3 inch holes cut for net pots and stick the pots in...

    What's your lawn mowing height

I like about three inches for all my lawn areas. It's a mixture of bermudagrass and different annual wild grasses and fescues.

If you only mow 2x a year with rotary cutter in the mid south

What times of year would be optimal? I am thinking around July 10 and October 10 to achieve optimal control of small brush and big weeds. There is one area on my place that is a real pain to get into due to a creek.

Tire Selection  F150 4x4 tire question

I have a 2010 F150 XLT 4x4. It still has the original tires, P235/75R17, plus a full sized spare of the exact same type and size. A couple of weeks ago I had a flat (rock cut), and had the tire repaired. I would rather not take long highway drives on that tire any more, but rather use it as...

    Battery removal on XJ2025H

If it becomes necessary to remove the battery on the XJ2025H, what's the procedure? It looks like I would have to remove the entire front panel to get the battery out. The owner's manual doesn't say.

    Hayfield partly flooded by creek

A few days ago our small creek got out of the banks, and was over 100 feet wide in places and probably 7 feet deep in the channel, flowing with about a 10 to 15 mph current. The creek was by far the highest I have seen it since I bought this place in September 2013. About an acre and a half to...
