I don't disagree. That ledge makes things difficult. We don't know exactly what he has to work with. If he does have an area in the right place where he can dig out a swale, it is a cheap fix.

    Washout-proofing a ditch

Just to better understand your problem, doesn't your washout show water running alongside your road - not across the road? Washout across your road = undersized culverts. Washout alongside your road = Water moving too fast / ditch too narrow/ ditch material not stable enough.

X2 on more pics and a better description about what the problem is. My take from the description and picture is that the culverts are functioning okay and water is NOT flowing over the road. I take it that the water rushes down the narrow ditches to fast and waskes out the SIDES of his road...

I suppose it is possible that in heavy grass the hinged blades swing back and don't cut well. I agree to sharpen the blades for grass. It will also help to adjust the mower so the rear end is elevated. This will make the discharge much more effecient.

    Seeking tractor advice

12.4-28 tires are a fairly common size, so you should be able to find them for $350 - $500 each. Ask a local feed store a good place to buy tires. They may even have a used set of takeoffs. Mounting tractor tires isn't all that hard - after - you've done it about six times :) If you can find...

Failed attempt to smooth property, how to correct?

That grass actually looks pretty nice for having been planted last fall. As it fills in and becomes less clumpy, it will be significantly smoother. In the meantime a suspension seat might be in order.

Failed attempt to smooth property, how to correct?

This is the picture before the farmer smoothed it. A buldozer isn't going to improve that much. It would could easily be mowed with a rough cut mower as is. It got better after that. I'm guessing better than a pasture but not as good as a lawn, The OP wants a lawn. He will figure things...

No worries on the questions. The occasional response helps others know if we're on the right track. Pics of the current state would help. I do think it will get better with repeated mowings.

The OP may have answered his own question. He has started 11 threads and only has 22 messages total. It's good to be curious, but I think the OP is considering a wide range of tasks he faces and questions he has, and hasn't settled into a real focus (including, do I need a tractor?). It's...

Failed attempt to smooth property, how to correct?

I would have thought the farmer would have used some sort of drag harrow after discing for final finish, then using a cultipacker to enhance seed/soil contat. That said, this turf is very young - first mowing. As it grows thicker, the root base will self level minor imperfections and the...

Failed attempt to smooth property, how to correct?

A field is not a lawn and a lawn is not a golf course green. All are flat and smooth on their own terms. My guess is that the farmer actually did a pretty good job of removing the ruts, smoothing and seeding and probably ended up with something between a field and a lawn. You seem determined...

If it's a spacer, you could make one out of wood, saw it in half longitudinally, and clamp it on the axle as a temporary fix that would probably last for a long time.

Pics would help. If it's intermittent and not a lot of water, vegetation lined channels would do the trick. If it is a significant amount of water, you might have a nice source of water for a retention pond. We're all pretty much flying blind here guessing about what you have.
