Agreed. I'd be more worried and pissed about the time I wasted in rebuilding a questionable block, not worrying about serial numbers.

If you want a spare motor, I'd be shopping for one out of a junked tractor, before ever pouring time and money into a drilled block with a spun main bearing.
Got a good spare kubota V2403 engine you wanna sell me?

haha... nope! Is it a hard one to find?

I just opened a search window, and entered "tractor salvage kubota V2403 engine", and the first few hits showed rebuild kits at $500, used engine at $1900, and new engine at $2800. If truly available, I couldn't see putting machine shop hours + my hours + $500 rebuild kit + $500 in other random parts and consumables, all into an engine I could replace for under $3k.

Is this pricing valid, or bogus?

I had almost the same issue on my old Massey. Since I didn’t want to risk messing things up more, I looked for a used block on Ovoko and ended up finding one in better shape than mine. Swapping it was easier than trying to fix the mess. If you’re stuck with cracks or deep overdrilling, it’s worth checking there before putting too much time into patching.

Stainless MIG wire welds to some types of cast iron just fine. I've done it.

I bought a 3-phase motor on Ebay, and the seller jammed it into a flat-rate box with no padding. The USPS punished him, and me, by dropping it and breaking a corner off the base. I'm sure it was an accident. I got a refund, and then I decided to see if the base could be fixed.

People told me to try stainless wire, so I did. I warmed the cast iron up with a torch and then welded the parts back together. The welds held up fine in spite of being in a location that takes some stress.

For a guy who wears a black belt and has 2 dobie companions you sure play the victim a lot.

You: You're playing the victim.
