Got a look at them tonight, but it started raining pretty good while I was there so didn't have nearly as much time as I hoped. Both machines started right up, first crank and no smoke I could see. Both sound like the run very nicely. Fluids look good from what I could see before the rain kicked in. The Kubota has clearly been used but apparently regular maintenance at the local dealer. I'll be following up on that. The Massey has been more of a "it sits and works when needed". Seller says he does basic oil service and not much else as it doesn't get much use.

I took a few photos that show some more detail. Not sure that anyone on here will have much they can tell me, mostly wrestling with price. Hard to find comparable numbers, especially for the backhoe. Seems a working one (any brand any condition) is never listed for less than $10,000 CDN in my area. From reading up on these I know the swing gear is a common trouble spot. NO visible leak there or on the other hydraulics, but clearly some oil around the engine case. The tires on the MF30 are starting to dry rot, maybe those photos can give an indication on how much life might be left in them. I am not wanting to put $3-4,000 into tires. I would likely be using the hoe for a year or so then trying to sell it again.

The Kubota is nearly as hard to price. Only similar one I can even find listed at the moment is an older model, lower hours but turf tires and a backhoe for $21,000 CDN.

By that math the asking price here ($18,000 CDN) for both machines is quite reasonable. Think I'll try to arm twist a friend or bring a mechanic up with me on a nicer day to give them a better run around.

Many thanks for any input/advice.

I have low, low hour L5450 with a Bradco hoe, without looking, it has somewhere around 500 hours. Barn kept, a beast and my favorite tractor. Low hours due to being on a remote property. That 5 cyl engine is SMOOTH and never needs glow plugs in our marine climate (down to 15 F).

Talking about my dream machine right there.
