In many ways we're already there. Both sides are equally guilty of this...taking extreme positions on issues and then refusing to budge or compromise. Hopefully, we're not so far along this path that we'll never recover.

When it comes to open borders versus closed borders/legal immigration, I know which side common sense side I support and which criminal/chaos side I don’t support. I don’t view my sides closed borders/legal immigration anything near the definition of “extreme”. OTOH, Open borders is dangerously “extreme”
Speaking of EVs, I see another automaker is scaling back on them citing weak demand.

Its because
1. they won’t “save the planet”
2. few Americans can own one because of their charging & range limitations.
3. anti-Elon Musk lunatics vandalizing them.

gound source heat pumps are not common here just plain air to air work well in our climate and are much cheaper to install my power bill is low because heating is by a log burner
Get ready to throw out that CO2 generating Log burner and only use the approved electric heat powered by renewable clean electricity. Just don't look at the CO2 involved in building that clean power.

Now since you started it, how can you use an evil and verboten heat source. Wood burning is one the first things to be outlawed to save the planet, well unless it is done in massive scale as renewable energy. Next you are going to admit you have out door fires and might burn none clean things, like paper or other waste that 😳 was contaminated by any petroleum product..... like a paper towel you wiped your hands with....

I use wood heat as well, live within millions of acres of oak and hickory dominated forrest,

The last one is very real here where Tesla started.

I have a high school teacher friend who really likes his Tesla which had gone from really cool a few years back to now getting snide remarks and damage…

He is just one of several in similar situations.

Sad in America in 2025 there are those that feel not guilt destroying the property of others to send a messsge.

If you change out a window or sand the house trim to make ready to paint someone might very well call to make sure it’s done properly…

The tractor is about something could be getting ready to be built… where are the permits, etc…

Each year I have to freshen up our mandated fire trails… maintenance does not require a permit… but every couple of years someone makes the call…
And brother I'm begging you to please, please, PLEASE keep those folks
in place, at home, in California. 90% of the rest of the country will thank
you.

The line of u-hauls is long…

It’s at least 50/50 if not higher planning on leaving the SF Bay Area… many upon retirement… some can’t wait.

My last work trip was enlightening as people met were friendly, public spaces well kept, markedly less trash along the roadside and cost of dining out and gas significantly less…

It was hot around 100 but the dry desert heat was not bad.

I’m starting to think it’s a big city thinking verses not big city… not seeing s lot of difference between say Seattle, Portland and San Francisco.

As mentioned rolling coal came as a surprise… just not going to see that here…

We don't need them here either. It's bad enough with the ones we already have.

Seems rules for thee but not for me is his platform? Yup there is a lot of hypocrisy in these green advocates (for someone else). He has outed himself several times but his bandwagon must have several spare wheels because he just keeps rolling along.

add: the heat pump conversation, The air heat pumps might keep a moderate climate home warm, but mine is used for spring and summer (great for cooling)...winter is all about our trusty wood stove, that works just as well when the power is off. Old bones love dry wood heat in the wintertime.

one note about Co2....a non toxic odorless gas that is essential for life on earth. We mitigate bad pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, particulates, and nitrogen dioxide with the end result being more Co2.....and even at that man caused co2 is less than .3 % of our atmosphere. So blowing up economies for green energy conversion doesn't seem to the fit the science. Could it be that the sun is warming the planet and the natural carbon cycle is just part of something we have little if any control over? Climate change has been around for 4.5 billion years.

Completely different process.
Does not produce the waste of nuclear fission.
Fission derives heat from splitting atoms.
Fusion combines atoms.
Molten salt reactor, or Thorium reactor:

A conventional fission reactor only uses 2% of the energy in uranium, the other 98% is radioactive waste. Just getting new Uranium is cheaper than processing the used uranium to go for another cycle.

A molten salt reactor can use up all the existing nuclear waste up, meaning that when after 40 years of running a conventional reactor, and the reactor needs replacement, we can produce the same amount of energy in a molten salt reactor for the next 2000 years, on the waste of said conventional reactor.

Another plus is the auto shutoff: in the bottom of the molten salt circuit is a pipe connected to a holding tank. In this pipe, a cooling element is installed that plugs up the drain pipe with cool, solid salt.

So when the control room looses power, the freeze plug thaws, the molten salt drains into the reservoir and the nuclear reaction is instantly stopped.

So, why isnt every nuclear reactor in the world a molten salt type, and was the experimental molten salt reactor abandoned in the early 70s ?

A. Because salt is corrosive and high temperature accelerate chemical reactions (like corrosion). Back then, allloys like Inconel didnt exist yet, metallurgy has come a long way since then.

B. In the 60s, the US army needed Uranium to make nukes for the arms race. Molten salt (thorium) reactors did not produce uranium that is used in weapons.

And while we are quabbling with the green movement about winmills and solar panels (made in China) China already lurches ahead of us with MSR

Yes
It’s called transmutation.
Basically, they utilize a method called Fast fission and are able to absorb and utilize the fuel rods that were considered nuclear waste and stored away presently
There is also a type of plant (msr’s or molten salt reactors) utilizing molten salt instead of solid fuel where the superheated chloride causes atoms to split.
Ah, you already mentioned MSR... 👍

Locally, it's hard to find someone that can work on a geothermal heat pump. And if you purchased a home warranty, good luck filing a claim on it. It's pretty much a guarantee that they don't have a contractor that can work on them.
Same problem in Holland. Heat pump and solar panels are mandatory to get permission to build a new house, yet theres no one to service it if it breaks down. And solar panel companies go bankrupt one after another because the market collapsed since energy companies charge a backfeeding fee if you backfeed your excess solar into the grid

And yes they are right to do so. Energy plants produce 10 kilovolt, distribute it long distanve through above ground cables, to local 1Kv transformers on a city scale, and then every few blocks share a transformer that transforms it to 240V single phase or 400V three phase (in Europe)

And the government thought it was a good idea on a sunny day to feed the same amount of energy back into the grid at end-user voltage... Anyone remember Ohms law, I=U/R ?? 🙈🙈🙈
