The photographer enjoys trying to capture the crew on the ships because as he said over and over again over the years, without them these ships are nothing... they would be piles of steel sitting around doing absolutely zero... And I also believe that not only are they what give the ships life in a literal way, they do in other ways too... Each ship has its own personality in large part due to the crew who are aboard... One of the most fun parts of what I do is getting to know crew members from across the Lakes, and becoming friends with them... it makes shooting their vessels so much more enjoyable, especially when I can see them.

At the Soo MI today and both are 1000 footers . The American Spirit and Paul R Tregurtha meet at Mission Point yesterday afternoon on the St Marys River. The American Spirit is taking a load or iron ore to Conneaut, OH and the Paul R is destined to Superior, WI to load coal. 21 July 2025.
