W6x15 I beam load calculation needed

This thread is 6yrs old. If you want to see the finished product go to a thread of mine called “ finally got the bridge started”. I wound up going with (4) w12x25 beams. It turned out pretty cool. Thanks for the responses.

    Finally got the bridge started.

Thanks for all the replies. I didn’t want to just put up run of the mill balusters to support the handrails. I was looking for something functional and had some character. Also, the wife wanted something to keep the grandkids from falling off. This is what I came up with.

    Finally got the bridge started.

I was able to get one side of the bridges railings done. I miscalculated the amount of boards I was going to need so I had to mill up more boards. Which I now have to wait until they dry out a bit. Anyway, here are some pics. The first two pics are before I stained them, the second 2 pics are...

    Finally got the bridge started.

Thanks for all the comments. Gonna be a week or so before I can get to the railings. The wood has been stickered for a week or so. I hope to get it finished next time I am at the property.

    Finally got the bridge started.

I was able to get the decking down and a few posts set for the railings. I have used 5gal of used motor oil and 5gal of diesel to protect the decking. It saved me $600. I paid $300 per 5gal for oil based stain on the barn. .

    Finally got the bridge started.

I picked up some crusher run with my dump truck today and decided to prepare the entrance to the bridge. I put 2x8’s across the end of the beams to hold back the gravel. I just roughed it in for now and will fine tune it when I get it all put together. I couldn’t resist putting a few boards on...

The water has never, ever come close to that line you drew. It’s never reached the arena where the concrete bags are set. The bridge bottom is 4’ above the level of the creek. It’s only ever come up another foot during heavy rain during the wet season.

    Finally got the bridge started.

Thanks for all the thoughts and analysis. The heaviest thing going across will be my excavator that weighs 19k. Other than that, just quads and Utv’s. The concrete is on virgin soil and buried in the bank. The only part visible is the very top where the beams sit. I don’t see them moving at all...

    Finally got the bridge started.

So, I’ve been wanting to build a bridge over a small creek for sometime. We were able to cross it with a sxs, quad, tractor and excavator but it was slightly difficult. Also, thought it would look neat. I got a hold of (4) W12x26 steel beams 24’ long. I dug out an abutment on either side to...

Thinking about upgrading. Opinions on a JD 60D.

I have a Bobcat 331g that has served me well but I am getting older and it’s time for a cab and something a little bigger. I am looking at a 2014 JD 60D mini that is for sale near me. Looks in good shape, has 2800 hrs and comes with 3 buckets. Owner has a septic install company. Was wondering if...

If you can’t find out for sure if a relief valve is present on the aux hydro lines, If and when you get a thumb for it, extend the thumb about 3/4 of the way and then curl your bucket. If the bucket is able to fully extend, push the thumb, and not blow a hose, the system is set up for a thumb...

From what you have said, I would believe, since the unit is already plumbed for aux hydros and has the bracket for the pin on thumb that it is ready to go. It probably has had a thumb on it during its lifetime.

I have a 2005 331g that I bought without a thumb. The machine had a place for the top pin to go welded on from the factory. I just bought an aftermarket thumb for the machine and it went on in 15 minutes. If yours doesn’t have it, they make weld on aftermarket thumbs that can be used. Good luck.
