I have quite a bit of Log debris to clear out of a creek. Has anyone ever made a homemade grapple that would fit on a Kubota MX5400 FEL attachment. I might have to make some sort of rake etc. suggestions and photos appreciated

I've built, modified and repaired several grapples. What do you mean when you say, "that would fit on a Kubota MX5400 FEL attachment"? That should be just a standard SSQA. There are a wide variety of options. I prefer a swivel grapple over a root grapple for most things. Here's the one I built this winter.

Grapples come up at auctions every week and go for $1200-1800 range depending on size. Then check FB marketplace for used ones too.

If you want to go another route, add a grapple thumb to your existing bucket The Thumb - Add-on Grapple Attachments

You will need a third function valve or a hyd connection for either thumb or grapple

How about a picture of what you are dealing with, is this a dry creek bed ? or wet and not solid bottomed? All for using a grapple when it can be used but when you say creek an excavator with a thumb might be better?

For brush and logs I like what Mikester posted and similar numbers in a tractor that size works well. My grapple is similar 66.5" width 49" opening but has replaceable round tines, makes it easy to add extensions when hand stacking but usually not needed. L bottoms are more versatile -but jmo.

I’m needing something with a boom as the creek is wet and close access with my tractor isn’t possible. I don’t care to put on my waders and hand winch but that may be the only way. Photo attached

ESPECIALLY if you add a matching grapple to the forks,

You can slide the forks right under the brush/logs, grapple the pile and lift it right out.

This wouldn't work for his application... unless you put pontoons on front. ;)

To the OP; depending on how much brush you need to move, a chain and getting wet might be your best solution.

I'm thinking it would be handy to have one of these

to hang on my front-mounted boom pole for stuff like that

OK, here’s an update on the project. I took the advice and just took Jstpssng’s advice and took to the creek. I appreciate everyone’s advice. It took me a pike 220 foot chains two choker chains and my Kabota MX 5400 a pair of rubber boots and some gloves and got it finished. Attached is a photo of me after the job is complete, not bad for an 83 year-old if I say so myself also attach is an after the cleanup photo. I appreciate everybody’s input and I will say that pipe really came in handy. I had asked a question about this before in the forum and somebody mentioned using a pike and I didn’t even know what it was till I looked it up and ordered one so just a shout out to all you guys that make this forum a go to place to get help. Appreciate all you guys.
