Wearing rings

LOL I went to a tatoo parlor to do just that when I was in Oregon a few yrs ago but when I explained I would not be able to come in for touchups every couple months, as they wear off the fingers really quick, the artist said he wouldnt do it as it would look too wierd. This from a guy who had holes in his lower lip and ears I could put a finger thru:laughing:

I got a tattoo wedding band instead of a ring. Had mine for quite a few yrs and never had it touched up. Still looks just like it did when I got it. I went across the top and down both sides of my finger. My tattoo guy said it would do fine like that but the bottom side of the finger would never stay. So far he has been right.

My parent wore thier rings but only for going out and on special occasions. Too many folk around missing fingers, hands, arms and lives due to a piece of jewelry.
At my place of work a metal watch, ring or any jewelry will get you hustled into the mangers office for a supreme screaming at on the first offense. Worse on the 2nd.Never heard tell of anybody doing it the third. We do take a look around to ensure that somebody didn't absently mindlessly miss something.

Guess not! I had to arrest the same guy three times. LOL

I think most of us expect we can violate man/nature's laws at some level and get away with it. We know the risks but like to gamble with them. :)

They have quite a few workplace accident photos. The guy who managed to screw a nut onto his finger with his impact wrench was a first for me.

On the other hand the video for Scrutts work clothing was quite humorous.

I used to always wear my wedding band everywhere, but after nearly catching it while moving a big appliance, I started taking it off any time I’m working with my hands. I still prefer to wear it on less “risky” days though, like at the office or when going out to dinner with family or friends. There’s definitely a sentimental part of me that misses having it on all the time, but the risk just isn’t worth it after seeing some close calls.

My wife and I ended up looking for some alternatives I can wear during work, but nice rings are hard to beat for regular wear. I went down a rabbit hole looking at diamond jewelry options recently and found some fresh styles I’d actually feel comfortable wearing when I’m not on the job.

An old thread but the message is still important.

Wearing jewelry was not permitted where I worked, particularly rings. Too many four fingered old timers.

Rings (and neck ties) were a no-no for us in the shop too. Maybe the new "rubber" ones are less bad? Too bad the link no longer works for the gory work accident pics. :(

Always a good message. A friend lost his finger or most of it because of his wedding ring. He was climbing down out of the tractor cab. I think he might have jumped from the last step but it's been 40 plus years. Regardless the ring hooked on something and pulled the end of his finger off.

Some people wear the neoprene or silicon or whatever they are rings because they will break before anything worse happens. I also knew of someone getting the ring smashed and having to be cut off.

I know there will be a few saying I should have had a vise and I should have used a ladder but sometimes it is quicker to simply react than stop and recognize every posible hazard .

Do you put on a helmet and pads when you take off your ring or does removing it give you special powers to avoid all of the other hazards you are failing to see coming and have to react too?
