at 78 just had cataracts done, highly successful, makes me a safer driver & better photographer. fortunately no joint or carpal tunnel to date.
we're lucky to have these procedures at hand so to speak, back in the day...joint replacements, procedures, etc were completely different

I am going through that right now, hands are just throbbing with pain especially at night all the way up to elbow. Have no strength in the hands or fingers. Takes both hands to lift a cup of coffee in the morning. I go to bed at 11:00 and by 1:30, the pain wakes me up. Go sit on the recliner and seems to help some. Doctor gave me prescription for Medrol for 6 days, worked great for eight days than the pain came back and he wouldn't give me anymore because it was to hard on the body. Went through a tube of Diclofenac Sodium Topical Gel in two weeks, was supposed to last a month. Now on the second tube.
I am having surgery on the left wrist and elbow May 12/26. I can't wait to get it done. Second one will be about two weeks later. I will be 80 in six more weeks.
That is no way to have to live, I'll bet after the surgery that you will be as good as new, make sure to update the thread and let us know how it went for you, being sore for a short time after the surgery was a small price to pay for that aching pain and sleepless nights to be gone.

72 here. Was scheduled for total knee replacement 15 plus years ago. Took Glucosamine in high dosages - that knee is now better than the other. Cataract surgery and then a more involved eye surgery - now fine.
Been lucky with shoulders, wrists, and hips. Meloxicam helps with arthritis pain - I've been using it for 15 years with no side effects.

I had my left wrist done around 2008. I'm sure things are different now with all the micro surgeries they have going. Had no issues with the surgery but man the physical therapy after was brutal. Those folks are sadistic.... I was around 60 when I had mine.

This thread is interesting. Describes my symptoms to a T. I'm lucky if I can make it through a night without waking up numb. And as I type this last night was one of those nights with no issues. Sometimes I will sleep all the way through and wake up in pain up my entire arm. Struggle with feeding the cattle in the morning but after that I'm good to go rest of the day. Used to affect me only in the winter but is now throughout the year. Dropping stuff for no reason is interesting and does happen. Both are affected but right side is the worst. Really annoying when both are numbing out. Lay on my back arms straight to feel better but I can't sleep on my back. 46 and been in agriculture entire life. Dairy, equipment running, 8 years in a factory, and now UPS.

I like the light blue one on the right better, it's a "Pil-O-Splint" model from IMAK RSI the other one is from same place called "SmartGlove PM"

They help keep you from kinking up your wrists!

What do you like better about the light blue one?
Arthritic wrist wakes me up occasionally.

In general what are the restrictions and lay up time? The job could care less about but finding a break farming isn't easy.

We you get tested for it??
First I would need a doctor. Haven't been to one since my pediatrician. Started the process last winter but couldn't get the doctor I was after and never followed through getting a different one. Should be taking advantage of the insurance from UPS.

It doesn't have a Velcro fastener, and it's a tad longer ... They both have a "palm ball" that helps get your wrist straight, as does the support along the top/back of the hand ..

While my wife has had two procedures, carpal tunnel so far has not caught up with me. Surprisingly because my resume does include electrician. That's one thing that I always found to be rough on my hands/wrists. Ah', it's a great life and then you get old.

I had an appointment yesterday with the doctor doing the carpal surgery. Explained the difference between the endoscopic and the conventional surgery. Endoscopic needs to be done before there is nerve damage for best results and less recovery time. My next step is to do a nerve test to determine any damage. Doctor emphasized not rushing recovery after either procedure, assured me I could run a chainsaw and use a hammer afterwards.

My wife had both wrists and left elbow for Ulnar nerve release done December 1st. She is doing good now finally, she did have spinal fusion on 4-7 in her neck on February 25th also.
