The ground under a ButterNut tree was littered with nuts all around it. I thought it was neat how every single hut was gnawed through with an almost identical pattern.

The name for the farm here is called ButterNutRidge. There were many old butternut trees, 40yrs ago. There are only a few left, now mostly ate up with wounds on the bark (virus), and no nuts produced at all. There must have been a knack to cracking those nuts and getting anything out of them, because I sure couldn't. Lost tribal knowledge.

It's the same here. There are very few healthy trees around that produce nuts like this one.

Many years ago when my son was in T-Ball the T-Ballers played on a flat lawn that was adjacent to a small mfg plant. There were 3 or 4 Kildeer nests in the out field. They put a little fence around each one and told the kids to be careful. Kids and birds all survived fine.

Flat gravel parking lot.... seems like a good place to me. 🙃

How about in the middle of my driveway? And then put on the most convincing "wounded bird" act if I ventured too close...I have a video of her flopping around but have no idea of how to post it on here so a photo will have to do.

She's a drama queen! :ROFLMAO:

We had one in a parking lot last year. I saw the parent, but the baby was so small. It finally got up and ran with the parent. Man, it was SO small and all legs. Looked like one of those stick family stickers on the back of a car.

I've seen one box turtle the size of my thumb once. So tiny. Most that we find are much larger.
This snapper (above) hung out at the door for a while. I finally put it in a box and relocated it to the woods, since my dogs were taking too much interest in it. (For their protection). 👍

I once found a box turtle in my parent's back yard. I called my dog over to check it out. He sniffed it a few times.... then peed on it! I felt bad so I got a bucket of water and washed the poor thing off. :ROFLMAO:

When our youngest lived in Stillwater, OK, they'd get box turtles in their back yard pretty often. And we'd find them in local parks and such. Haven't seen any in the wild here in northern Indiana for a looooong time.
