I'm told that the 'C' series (Yellow) decks for the X595 (And probably the X748) tractors are no longer available (Here, anyway)

Just wondering if anybody has upgraded to one of the newer 54HC or Accel (Green or Yellow) decks as fitted to X758 models now ?

The dealership tells me it's not possible to retro-fit the 54HC to an X595 - Or if it was there would need to be new weldments attached to the chassis to accommodate the different deck hangers.

Thanks, in advance, for any insights.

I believe the rear connection to accomodate drive over deck are different on the HC vs C or exel but I do not have any dimensional data other than feeble memory to support that thought.

The gauge wheels on my 54HC for the X738 do not swivel 90 degrees to allow deck to roll out from under the tractor. I do not believe that any of the drive over deck wheels will swivel.

Thanks, Oldnslo. Yes, I understand that the gauge wheels on the HC deck don't swivel. They don't need to as you can drive over the deck to dis/mount.

I'll have to try and get a newer X758 alongside the X595 and check/compare the geometry.

I was just hoping someone had already done that to save me some trouble. :)

I have the 54” HC but not sure how to take measurements that would be of any value. Going from memory the older C style rear connection was a rod of pin that fit into a slot on the lifting arms. New style HC the mounts on the deck are slots that catch a rod on the lifting arms.

Would pictures of the HC deck be of any help?

Thanks for the offer of photo's - Very much appreciated.

I can go and eyeball both types here - It's just an hour each way so I'll make them a "When passing by" mission. There's no rush.

The dealer is not interested in helping - They just want to sell a new machine.

The X595 & X748 lift arms have a 'V' slot in the ends to pick up the pin on the C deck.
More of a sideways < if you get my drift.
I think the X758 has a hook type of connection on the lift arm ends.

Here is a photo of the rear connections on my 54HC. Deck is hanging on wall of machine shed and photography is not my strong suit.

This is also the quick tach version for PTO. I don’t think that makes any difference on deck mounts though but could be 110% wrong in that belief.

Oh, Thanks (!) for those photo's, Oldnslo.
I see the difference now.
These are the new style where the lift arms are joined by the bar across them and it hooks into the deck mounts as you drive over. (Similar to a 1025R that I'm familiar with)
I see how the different brackets on the deck will need the different lift arm assembly now
I wonder if I can fit the new lift arms to the old X595.
You've saved me a trip to visit the X758 I was going to look at.
Thanks again. Most helpful.

(y)

I was wondering the same thing on lift arms being interchangeable from 595 to X7**. Or possibly modify 595 arms to have engagement rod like X7

I believe deck is the same for X7** and 1025 but a smart person would confirm that vs believing this senile citizen 🤪

This is a difficult mission without having easy access to both decks right next to each other. And preferably both machines. Easy mission if one could ever get that. I have thought about doing this myself to convert my x595 to one of the new drive-over HC decks. I am perfectly capable of making any parts needed, but with no measurements...not so easy.

Let us know how that goes. Sounds pretty difficult. Wish you well.

The 54C deck sure has a lot of variations even without going to the HC. I have ordered my second deck belt, wrong one sent first time (No returns) and still not sure the next will be correct. The main sheeve was easy order some Timken 6203 2RS-C3 bearings and replace them. idlers they sent were smaller diameter. Figured I better just replace the idler bearing turned out JD riveted it in six places and spot welded the exterior in 8. DOH but I did get it done.

Should have just drove into the JD store and given them the business instead.

Hope you have better Luck.

Thanks all.
The 48A deck is en-route (sea-freight) from Australia and I have received the lift arm/hitch assembly (#AM144795) which marries to it.

I figure I can make any modifications to that hitch needed to adapt it to the X595 once I see it in position.

Updates will follow. Stay tuned.
Do not adjust your set.

Sd455,
Is there a tag on your deck with serial number on it. That was the best way I have found for identifying belts, idlers, etc. on Deere mower decks. The old 112 had two or three options on 47” deck. X540 with 54” had same issue as you found out. Not sure on 54” HC on X738 since haven’t needed a belt yet…

Nope, and I looked all over the deck for a part number.
I bought the X 500 with about 800 hours on it. I have the tractor operation manual but it only has a couple pages devoted to the deck.

What is driving me nuts is I could have sworn it came with the deck parts service manual as well but if I did get it somehow misplaced it.

There was a tag on that deck with S/N from factory so someone you bought it from apparently removed it. Wonder why ??

The shields were gone as well. I bought it through the local Husqvarna dealer. Consigned from family friends of the owner.
Elderly owner bought it new, passed away and we paid $2400 to the widow for the X500, The serial numbers are on the rider itself.

If you are hinting that I may have purchased a stolen ~15 year old JD mower you would be mistaken.

pics before I brought the deck to the garage to work on it after 3 1/2 years of mowing for us.
Had room for the mower in the Barn but pulled the deck and unfortunately it was out in the rain and snow for a couple months, tape was me to cover holes. Only two decals I saw are shown.
Extra pic of disassembling that idler. JD sure did not want it to come apart, eight rivets and 8 more spot welds around the exterior.

I see the deck belt for the 54C on your X500 as being #M154960 (Either side of the serial number break.)

The idler is not meant to be dismantled to replace the bearing. Just off/on a replacement part.
Too much time speant drilling & re-bolting at dealership labour rates.
Of course, at home, your time is your own.

Any number of aftermarket brands are available if you care to search.

Thanks for that number and it IS what is incoming. Had I found the right number on the idler with the built in stand off would have bought it as well. I did have spare bearings on hand bought six from rebuilding the main sheave drive but way to much work versus just buying the new correct idler.

Should have the belt early this week but also got a rush job on FIL's Jacobsen Kubota diesel powered Jacobsen 628D "TurfCat" mower dropped in my lap to fix first. Hydro drive to spindles will not engage.

edit hope Things go well on Spanners conversion, things worked out OK on my 54C , have two spare idlers that are smaller diameter that will go in the spare parts for whatever. Belt fit well and ready for remounting on the rider. One of the little hanger pieces was broken - going to either figure that part out and make it or better yet just order it.
