Dearest took Friday off so we are heading down to camp in the morning. Weather is warm but snow starts up over the weekend. We know they got more snow there this week so I texted the snowplow guys how much. With snow there to move, we will bring the 6x6 with us and bring the 4x4 back to get its plow installed. Would that mark the end of winter? :ROFLMAO:

You'll get that rogue snow squall on 4/15. Least that was how it always worked in Cleveland ... one more storm after everyone removed their studded snows.

Was thinking of your place with the epic recent snowstorm totals, Arly. Figured you got at least 2 feet. 52" is unreal, though.

Bummer for mt bohemia that they missed out on this recent storm, but the season has been great overall.

It was 76° downstate last Friday... snowing a little today but we're sure ready for spring.

We are planned to move and tin this 6 x 8 skid shed, and place it over an in-ground battery box to keep them warm. Anyone here have experience doing that type ground storage? Was thinking of a treated 4x4's to a make a shallow box (cribbing like) with insulated roof. I pasted a cribbing box photo.

Only snowboarded there once, some years ago. Would love to go back but the 11 hour drive is a major barrier. But I love the concept of wild mountain with no grooming and only natural snow, best vertical drop in Michigan, and had a blast there for a couple great days. So I follow their updates a bit.

Honestly what I would love to see is some more investments into Mt Marquette, that place has a lot of potential but has been run on a shoestring budget for a long time now. Their lifts are decrepit.

I have been to Bohemia once about 15 years ago. It was before Christmas and at the time they had the deepest snowpack of any resort in the US. I can't remember how much but I do recall 3 foot embankments along the roads already.

Haven't read this entire thread yet but got to the point where OP got the camp in Covington. I've bird hunted that area for 30 years or so, mostly south near Amasa, Crystal Falls, and west toward Iron River. My second setter pup was from Crystal Falls. Have always wanted to retire and move to the UP but we've now bought our own "snow camp" on the Tug Hill plateau in NY. My wife still does a lot of dryland and snow sled dog racing on the UP, lower P, and Wisconsin. Very interested to see how progress on the camp goes this spring.

We know folks here who run dogs. When will you be back to visit us?? We don't get down to Crystal Falls,or Iron River very often.

don't know if we'll make it there this fall or not, we have a friend in Calumet who used to run sled dogs but now is more into hare coursing. My wife is possibly looking at a dog in WI next month but I think she's planning on driving through Chicago rather than across the UP. I'll let you know next time I'm up there, I've camped just about everywhere on the UP, although near you I'm almost always either in Mass City or closer to Bruce Crossing.

At camp in sunshine and seen a gorgeous moon overnight. Near the lake we don't see clear skies over the winter very often. Was kinda a blizzard on the drive out last evening but not much new snow here. Today we plan to ski, mark trails for this summers construction and do other fun things. 😄

We will be grilling fresh salmon shortly.
Today we mark a property line, groomed a trail. Skied some and found a few dead standing trees for heat, cut them and brought them back. Refilled the indoor wood supply. It's about 32 degrees here now and sure had a good day in da woods. 😍

Got back last night at 5 and sorry to say, took a record low number of pics while there. 🥺 Here is a few from a game cam of it snowing, plus snow sliding off the roof. While BC skiing we found moose tracks, so they are still in the area. Looked at the leaning garage and how to winch it back straight, then add cross members to it.
