2014 Mahindra eMax22
I recently bought a used 2014 Mahindra eMax22. Great subcompact tractor. Noticed exhaust was coming out from under the hood; popped it open and found that the muffler was cracked pretty bad. Looks like it was welded once, but the weld has since separated. Seems like my options are: (1) find a welder and re-weld it; (2) buy a new muffler kit. Since the first weld has already broken, I'm leaning toward #2 ... except that new mufflers run $600-$750. New from the manufacturer is here: Mahindra Tractor Muffler Kit (Updated) 11211311000 and used from a random shop is here: Mahindra Muffler Kit 11211311000 – eMax 22 & eMax 25 Gear/HST & Steel Models (Improved Design).

Any suggestions on best path? I'm happy to spend the money, but don't want to if I really don't need to.

I've seen quite a few posts on TBN in regards to this. I think there's a revised bracket kit, or of course the whole "revised" exhaust. Unfortunately nothing cheap.

Ideally, I would cut out the broken pipe and replace it with one with a bit thicker wall, but it could probably be successfully fixed by doing a good grind and weld around the break and put a couple of 1/4 or 3/8 rod supports to keep it from flexing on the one spot.brokeexhaust.jpg

Okay good, thanks. I have a local welder I'm going to ask about it.

After welding crack weld some gussets to reinforce it. Idling for a low time at a low rpm will cause muffler to crack

I think idling these particular machines up a bit is your best defense on this. My TYM T224 shakes/rattles strongly at lowest idle. I always bump the RPMs up just a tad to smooth it out.

Good plan. A good repair will hopefully be a lot less cost than a new unit that will probably crack again anyway left unmodified.
