I didn't think there was Winter down there.

It was 18 degrees here about 3 weeks ago and a good solid frost at 27 degrees Monday morning of this week, don't know if that counts compared to what ya'll go through but cold to us.

Ya, thinking about getting the boat out this weekend. Supposed to be in the upper 70's.

It will be in the 20's here in the beginning of the week and be in the 80's by the end of the week.

We hit 17 earlier this month, and 26 Monday. Was kinda a suprise on Monday, as weather said 34... About half inch thick ice in the waterer from that 17...

In winter, when it warms up in the 40s-50s, I'll see flocks of "blackbirds" come into the marsh areas eating berries like dogwood, buckthorn, and buds on maples etc. They all look dark gray, black colored. But they sound just like robins. Ends up they are, thousands of them. SE Wisc, middle of Jan, Feb. Starlings and cedar waxwings will do the same, migrate up during warm spells, disappear for a time, then back again. It seems once the ground thaws, and they can get hold of nest materials and soft food, then they disperse all over and start nesting.

We have had robins since January. It seems they don’t always fly south. They will stay around and eat berries. They also flock together, a little like the starlings do but not quite as dense. This is the first year I’ve seen that.

As long as we have open grass we seem to have robins, even in the coldest of winters. This year we had a lasting snow cover, so no robins until a couple weeks ago.

They don't really migrate north and south so much as to wherever food can be found.

I ice fish on a lake that I grew up on, and there's a high hill with springs coming out of the bottom right at the lake line. It can be -20F and as long as there is a wet area in the mud, there will be robins picking worms there.

Found this shed in the side yard yesterday. Have seen its owner before and he is a big boy. Since tearing up a tire and fender with one years ago, I am always on the lookout for them.

I need to find some use for them (or start throwing them in the trash) because I have a big stack. The only use I've found so far is a handle for a bottle opener. I just don't need that many bottle openers....

I make canes and walking sticks and use some of the shed I find for handles on the canes or top decoration of the walking.

Wow , I guess the deer ran itself into a bottle opener when the antler was growing.
