Where do you park/store your tractor?

I find plowing to be much faster than blowing snow. I put the plow on front and the blower on the back.
Plowing is much faster than blowing, although it becomes a lot closer if you count the time re-landscaping your lawn come spring. And the snowbanks can get really high in some years.

The (front mount) snowblower runs 6" past the edge of the pavement, and there is virtually no buildup of snow along the edges, which is especially important where the driveway meets the road.

Then again, if you have a 1/4 mile long drive through the woods, a plow makes a lot more sense. There is a reason that almost all municipalities use plows and not snowblowers.

When not in use, I park my tractor in a carport with a gravel floor. It's a Kubota B2320 that I bought new in 2014. I am starting to notice quite a bit of rust on the tractor and am wondering if this is normal for being storing on a dirt floor, or has Kubota paint quality gone downhill.

Would love to hear how you all store your tractors and your issues & solutions to rusting or preventing rust.
Both situations result in Rust. Condensation is a big enemy. In the Spring, Sand the rusted areas and Rattle Can to restore Paint. Do not oil spray now.

So you never Wash it?

Leaf blower takes off the dust. I suppose I do use a quick detailer once per year and then apply ceramic coat. Do I hose it down? No. She stays pretty clean.

No rain. No condensation. No hoses.

In here, on a concrete floor. The lawn tractor lives behind the door to the left, the floor there is dirt and bark chips. Keeps the paint and rubber in nice shape, I keep rodent bate stations filled year round and haven't had any issues with mice in the wiring.
I've stated before, it amazes me how many folks around here leave their tractors outside. Too many pink Kubotas around to count!

Hi,

Brand new to the forum.

My Mahindra Max 24 HST tractor and Walker zero turn mower are both stored in a shed 16 x 20 shed with an elevated and reinforced wood floor built specifically for them.

The only time the tractor is not kept there is in the winter when it is moved to the spare garage bay so it can plow out and down the driveway.

I used to keep mine out in the open with just a tarp, but after upgrading equipment I decided it wasn’t worth the exposure. Recently I put up a metal barn and now I park all my tractors and farm equipment in there. It’s made a big difference — no more worrying about sun damage, rain, or constantly covering and uncovering things. Everything stays dry and a lot more secure, and maintenance has honestly been easier since it’s protected from the weather.

Mine got lucky; insulated garage beside wifes vehicle!

Happened by accident. New Chevy HD has a longer bed and my garage door wouldn’t close by 4 inches! So truck under carport, tractor in garage.

Climate controlled addition to the main barn with selected implements. 2026 projects include a 10’x20’ run in shed for the land plane, York rake, back blade, aerator and box blade.

That’s the bee’s knees.

I got lucky. Had a two car garage. Insulated but not heated. Truck goes outside and tractor goes in the garage. It’s gotta be at least 25 years now. Usually, I can go out there no matter what temperature there is still liquid water in my water bottles. Only just recently I got sick and tired of shoveling the vehicles after a snowstorm and I decided (against others wishes) put them both in the garage after all these years, it finally dawned on me I could move a stack of hardwood lumber and put the tractor under the barn. It’s a tight fit and there’s soil just outside the door so when it gets muddy, it’s gonna be a mess, but it’s still so much easier than shoveling the vehicles.

Climate controlled for a tractor is a nice luxury but dammed if I would pay for heat and a/c for a tractor LOL
I got better things to do with climate controlled space.

My shop is heated and cooled. I suspect many may have a heated and cooled shop, and then also park their tractor in there for lack of another so-called "cheaper" place to put it. I know my own tractor spends a few nights each year parked in the shop, for varying reasons.

Mine resides in our temperature controlled 3rd garage, using built-in baseboard heaters. Our cars also enjoy the same treatment in our primary garage. For me, it’s worth the cost of electricity in our Wisconsin winters.
If only it were merely the cost of the fuel...

How do you deal with the snow melting off the tractor? Do you have a floor drain? I used to store my tractor in a heated garage, but with no floor drain I was constantly trying to sweep water out the door. Not only was that a PIA, my tools were rusting, so I quit doing that and now store the tractor in a carport.

I run a fan in the shop where I park the tractors. No pooling water or rusting tools.

I do the same in the attached garage, where the cars are parked. Overnight the floor is dry, the cars and trucks carry lots of dirty slush this time of year. Weekly I sweep out the sand.

Not my tractor, but we park my wife's SUV and my pickup in our heated garage. When there's a huge buildup of snow/ice (usually behind/above the tires) I try to get most of it off outside. If, later, large clumps end up on the floor, I shovel them up and put the slop outside. I also run a dehumidifier, set at 35%. Usually it takes 1-2 days to make any water disappear.

BTW, floor drains are illegal in Vermont, unless you have an approved system.
