Good grief, the things that get some people going.
I suppose when someone asks how you are, you respond with "fine thank you how are you" just like your parents told you to say back when you were 5.
Time to do away with stiff-sounding scripted responses.

It leaves no room for anything but, “Howdy”..

I have trouble believing anyone as close to here as Delaware is getting away with calling any woman without at least a few grandkids "ma'am", without making some enemies.

"Miss" is generally preferred for anyone without an AARP card, here. I have heard more than one woman respond to ma'am with, "how old do you think I am?"

As someone raised with Yes Sir and Yes Ma'am take it as compliment with a smile, just like having a door opened for you. If you want to *****, I can speak your language quite well and slam the door closed in your face.

I've done an about face on self checkouts at grocery stores. Last night I bought fruit for a basket... caeefully choosing unbruised pieces. At the checkout I was carefully putting it into the bag, laying a foundation with the oranges and grapefruit so that the lighter fruit will go on top.
The bagger came over, threw the grapes in, then the apples and pears... bruising the apples which I had so carefully.

There is something to be said for doing things yourself.

He may have gone home and punched his dog in frustration each night, but he was a ray of sunshine at work!

My issue is I can be brutally honest where the filter between my brain and mouth is removed.

I am the family and local fix-it guy and computer guru.
I think I'm going to get a hat that says "OGTFT" on it.
Stands for Old Guy That Fixes Tings.

After 30 years at the newspaper, about 25 of that in I.T.... I've had my fill of computers. Been out of that since 2017 and don't miss it. Still know my way around the hardware but dislike the subscription model of software.

I may start playing with 3D printing and/or CAD table in a year or two when I retire again.

I used to reply "SSDD", etc. but finally realized the person asking may be having a nice day & why should I spoil it for them? Life is different if you live in the moment. If someone cuts me off in traffic, or I get injured, any number of negative things, it's now in the past! It's healthier to move on.
