Why are batteries suddenly so expensive?

Dont get me started on walmart batteries. Nearly every late night service call i get on backup generator non starts seem to involve nearly new walmart batteries. Over the phone when i ask how old battery is, its always “its not the battery, thats nearly brand new” i get there, dead wally world battery.

I always have a stock of new DEKA’S on my rig. Thats not the issue. The issue is there more expensive than wally world battery. When i test cold cranking amps on a WORKING wally world batter6 im lucky to find 500 cca. When i test CCA on older working DEKA battery i usually see 650-700 CCA.

Just saying

Walmart batteries, particularly the Everstart brand, are primarily manufactured by companies like Clarios and East Penn, with some batteries made in the USA and others sourced from overseas, including locations like India and Germany. The specific manufacturing location can vary depending on the battery model and type.

Walmarts 26R i think are johnson controls, lest what i can find.

I just dont know why they seem to fail so often. The one i just swapped out yesterday was just 2 years old. Owner didnt want to mess with returns, he just wanted generator to work.

I was told by a battery wholesaler Clarios (formerly Johnson Controls) and East Penn both make lower grade batteries or upper grade batteries for various manufacturers.
Same person told me something about recycled battery plates and a bunch of other useful info a few years back I forgot.

I wouldnt doubt that recycled lead could cause an issue. Ive seen those disgusting India videos of them recycling batteries. The toxicity must be sky high there. I cant imagine the lead is very pure afterwards….but who knows

Don't even get me started on their state income tax, especially for non-residents. I live in N.H., but when I was still working some of my income came from Vt. and was subject to their income tax (only that income earned in Vt).
OK, here's one for you. I live in and own a business in VT. No ties to NH whatsoever. Some of our products get shipped to NH. Last year, NH started charging us INCOME TAX on items shipped to NH. FWIW, NY does the same thing, but at least they don't claim they have no income tax...

Not sales tax, but income tax?

OK, I see opinions vary on batteries. I'll searching for a battery for my 2019 ranger, no rush, even though I'm getting electrical gremlins associated with impending battery failure.
Some trust Everstart batteries, other don't, some say depends on who/where made. The replacement battery for my truck from Walmart is

EverStart Platinum AGM Automotive Battery, Group Size H7 / LN4 / 94R 12 Volt, minimum 800 CCA

I like to think I'm pretty good at researching products, but can't find who/where this is made. Anyone know?
Also, is there an independent review of batteries with ratings?
Thanks for any assistance here.

Google says Everstart batteries for walmart
are made by several major manufacturers, primarily Clarios (formerly Johnson Controls) and East Penn Manufacturing, with Exide also being a producer, meaning the specific maker can vary by battery model and generation, but these big names provide Walmart with its exclusive brand.
