I do hate the grocery store model of membership pricing. They advertise a price and in very small print, (members price). When that happens, I quit shopping there
Many of us hate that. Years ago I was working in NH. After work I went to the grocery store (we'll call them Shaws) and picked up everything I needed, keeping close track of my spending as I was on a tight budget.
As I headed toward the checkout I realized that much of it was "members" pricing so I put everything back.
I then went to their competitor and bought comparable items... the total was virtually the same and nobody tracked what I bought.

Schlage locks and handsets. They used to be great quality, but have been getting worse and worse since the 1990’s. Trouble is, I already have all the keying sets, tumblers, and every house I buy seems to already have them, so I stick with them… much to my own peril.

Today, I found the deadlatch on the door out to our garage broken… probably my fifth bad deadlatch in 30 years. I had to literally go out thru another door to get into my garage this morning, and then later disassemble that handset to replace the bad deadlatch.

Two weeks prior, the thumb-turn locking mechanism to get out of the garage to outside on another Schlage handset failed. Both of these handsets are only 10 years old.

On my other detached garage I went thru 3 Schlage handsets in 13 years. They just don’t last anymore.

Meanwhile, I own another heavily used house with all of the original Schlage locks from 1953! How did they go from “so good” in the 1950’s, to “total garbage” by the 1990’s? They’re not much better then economy brands like Kwikset, today.

Likewise, other Schlage-keyed lock brands I have in other parts of the house, even when much more heavily used than the Schlage’s seem to last forever.

When your typing away as best you can looking at the keys because you are too old to have ever learned how to type properly and you look up only to realize that you accidentally hit the CAP button like 10 minutes ago.....and every stinking letter needs to get reentered. Grrr :censored:

The keyboard...
Who came up with the bright idea to mix up all the letters?
It's as if someone threw a bingo ball up in the air and when it landed, that became the next letter on the keyboard.

For those that hunt & peck, it sure would be a lot easier to type.

The QWERTY keyboard layout is actually extremely efficient. The typing class (before they called it "keyboarding") I took in high school paid dividends my entire life. The bonus was it was back in the day when typing was seen as a female career so the class was full of chicks.

And they separate things that need to be used together.

A few years back I was at Lowe's looking for a framing hammer in "tool world". None to be found, so I asked. They were on the same aisle as nails. Why? You don't have screwdrivers on the same aisle as screws or dykes on the same aisle as wire.

They've since corrected that.

That was the problem back then.
The adults didn't think boys needed typing back then, so they just made sure the girls took typing because it was in the girls best interest.

It has a long, complicated history.

Considering the advent of the first below zero temps this "winter" here is one of mine.

The use of the word "negative" with Temperature. Temperature is a measure of how much heat there is. Negative means you owe something, or have overdrawn it. It's possible to have NO temperature (aka 0° Kelvin), but you can't have negative temperature.
It kinda annoys me too, but I'd put it in the same category as calling vegetables "veggies" or mayonnaise "mayo". More annoying modern slang than peeve.

The thing that really annoys me with Shaws is that there are additional hoops to jump thru...you also have to "reserve" the sale items you want in advance via their aap. Don't know how it works if you don't have a smartphone, or choose not to do aaps.
I have a Price Chopper loyalty card that points to the address of a company I haven't worked for in 15 years, but the card still works. No need to reserve items. Trouble is, the nearest PC is 45 min away.

Didn't realize their quality had declined, guess it's been a while since I purchased a lockset.
What would be a good brand today?

I also took it in HS, partly because it seemed like a useful skill and partly because mostly girls in the class. Actually, the class I took was ~1/3 guys. Only took 1 semester, and never really got very fast, but to say it came in handy in life was certainly an understatement. This would have been mid-1960s.
