1970 Ford 3000 won’t move but goes into gear

Well I figured out what happened , crushed the pilot bearing when putting together was my fault , sorry fellas ! Thanks for the responses !

Look at the input shaft splines -like TX Jim posted those look completely stripped off.

Here is a new 3000 8 speed input shaft pic. Shafts and splines do wear had to replace them on my Ford hydraulic pump and the collar as well. Also you can test the input shaft to wheels by turning the input shaft with a chain wrench or slide the old clutch disc on and see that is not positively engaged.


ps. I crushed a pilot bearing once as well by forcing things as a kid on a 1965 GTO. The car still drove but with clutch depressed the input shaft was not being held in true on axis alignment, it also eventually damaged some bearings in the Muncie transmission Take the time to prove the root cause on the power transfer before it goes back together - also turning the crankshaft back and forth a bit and lightly bumping the clutch pedal while getting the pilot shaft to enter the pilot bushing sometimes helps getting the last bit of engine to transmission clearance taken up without forcing things may help.

Hmmm....
Now that has me wondering. My old AMC Hornet. My parents had the clutch replaced, then from day 1 it would always chatter when engaging the clutch. Once engaged or disengaged it seemed to be fine, but when engaging it it would chatter some like something was out of alignment.

Obviously the shop that changed the clutch claimed it was OK, and didn't want to fix it. Ultimately I put on quite a few miles with it chattering when engaging. I don't think it ever got better or worse.

One last question , so turned out it wasn’t the clutch AT ALL , but it’s got a new one now haha it stripped every bolt or stud on the ring gear , have no clue how , but everything else looked great in the rear end , does anyone know what bolt or stud they use to attach the ring gear back onto the differential ? It’s 12 of them

This should be the bolt/screw. Don't know that you want to get them through a New Holland dealer as they are over $14.00 each, but that is your choice. Doing a Google search All States Ag. parts has them for $2.29 ea. Bolt Ring Gear to Case fits Massey Ferguson 35 50 65 135 150 165 175 230 235 245 255 265 275 35 50 135 175 275 240 265 50 825776M1 fits Ford E94EB9

Well I came home from work today and split the tractor again , I can do it with my eyes closed now haha and it is a defective brand new clutch , I can move the clutch forks with my hand so I’m not sure if it just jammed or something broke in it , or I read that they need to be adjusted ? Does anyone know those specs or how to do it or if I need to take it off and have someone set it up , the old clutch fingers are sticking out so it will make contact with throw out bearing but after I split it again the new fingers are in and loose so there is no way it is applying pressure on the disk 1st picture is old clutch and second pic is clutch on tractor now

As the OP replied to an earlier post, it has anti-seize on it. Probably not a good idea to goop it on as it's bad for bearings and could end up in the clutch as it gets slung off.

Almost 2 years ago now I was plowing the garden and just one random pass I backed up and then went to go forward again and the tractor hasn’t moved since , no noise no nothing and clutch was pulling good and then just poor nothing , fast forward I split the tractor just got the new clutch in and flywheel resurfaced and the exact same thing ! Still will not move but goes into gear when pressing the clutch in. It feels the exact same as it did so I’m guessing it wasn’t the clutch in the first place , if anybody knows what might be the culprit please help !

Have you checked all the Clutch Linkage? Sounds like a Major Break in the Driveline. Good Luck.
