Everyone wants to live in the city. That's probably good for those in the rural areas. Except new developments go in there, too.

This used to be a rhododendron farm on the far east of Vancouver.

Too many people!

I’m confused. Each lot is 1.65 acres or 23 homes on 1.65 acres?

Tiny homes?

3,125 sq. ft. Per home & "lot".
I'm wearing my favorite T shirt right now. I couldn't do that there! They can have it!

How do you make a living farming Rhodies on 1.65 acres, let alone put 23 homes there?
Must be a misprint. 165 Acres makes more sense.
Could you link the article for us to see?

Details of the developement aside, what gets me is that so much of the world's land area is NOT occupied, and still people choose to "buy" what ever is offered .

I'm sure economics has a lot to do with it, the "near to jobs" mentality. etc.

But the rewards for "doing it!" are so great. I can wish it for every family!

He was retired, and farmed them as a hobby and for friends, etc.

!.65 acres is correct.

Article:

Google aerial:

My mistake (when I saw the aerial and not just the news map,) the property is across the street from the property I thought it was.

PS: Article says attached houses. I thought they were detached, but that was just one.

"Dezhnyuk said his team doesn’t have designs for the homes yet, but he expects them to be between 1,500 and 2,200 square feet. The lots range in size from 1,500 to 2,500 square feet for the attached homes and roughly 4,200 square feet for the detached home."

Probably like the development just a bit north of the property.

They don't have a garden, unless you count the obligatory rose bush from HD.
They get their food from the Farmer's Market where everything is grown using magic.

Perhaps if we can put in more row houses, there will be more land left for farming. ;)

A few quick calculations.

An acre = 43,560 square feet. 1.65 acres = 71,874 square feet.

I have seen 100x100 city house lots (10,000 square feet). But the lots can be made smaller. 50x100, or 5,000 square feet. At that size one gets 14 homes.

City blocks vary, and aren't being made in the grid pattern of older subdivisions. But they are apparently around 2 acres or so, with a bunch of houses.

That area appears to be in a place that is already slowly getting backfilled with city homes. Hopefully they are making provisions to get city water and city sewage.
