Not sure what else to call these. This is the information I’ve been given by someone that really knows his stuff

Don’t know anything beyond this, not entirely sure what this set up is used for

Quote: disks are Brinley 3pt made for EPCO/Powerking by the Brinley Corp in a category 0 application. They actually had two different sets available, the double gang set with smooth discs which I think are 10". Front set throws dirt out and the second set pulls it in. The other set they offered was a single gang with scalloped discs that were 16", called a brush and bogg disc. It cuts really good but it only throws dirt out and you have to double up on your cuts to try and keep a level garden surface
End quote

I’m assuming that mine is the double gang set mentioned above?

EDIT:

You will want to grease the bearings. Probably a heavy greasing to push out the old stuff. Replacement disc's arent brand specific, they are sold by diameter and hole size/shape; and available from Agri Supply

bmaverick, You plowed or otherwise worked up the plot "before" disking I assume? That does look good but 1930 didn't show a plow or tiller in his possession. In my experience a disc on unworked ground doesn't work all that nicely without numerous and I mean numerous sessions! Of course it does depend upon the type ground you have - mine is like concrete in the summer and a mud pit when it rains.

My garden areas were a progression with the disk harrow.

The land looked really RATTY. It had over 3,000 Christmas trees. After 3.5 months of logging, those were gone. To break the roots in the soil, the disc harrow did the job for 3 years before I could do anything with the land.

The logging company was very busy.

I ran around these timber piles for a few years.

Then burned the piles. Biggest bonfires I ever had in my life. Flames 4-stories tall. Each pile took almost 2 weeks to burn-out.

From RATTY after 2 years to being WORKABLE.

And how it is today.

The Disc Harrow worked the soil. It has to have notches in the first double gang. With the second double gang smooth to give the classic polished look.

My straight blade pulled and rolled the logs.

So yeah, been there done that. (y)

Ok Bmaverick, I stand corrected! That spring harrow will break up land given "Enough time"!! You've got a real nice spot worked up into fertile ground it appears. Looks good! Greg

I asked the logging company what would work for my machine, they quickly replied a disc harrow with notched and smooth. And to get the BIGGEST one my tractor could manage.
This King Kutter has adjustable angles for the gangs. Once I had those set, it did the sub-soil cracking and grinding.

If I wanted to convert the land sooner, the equipment would be in the $110Ks for Forestry machines. I even looked at Forestry mulchers to rent or buy. Too expensive.

Even this device was out of my budget. And when the cutters got dull, they would need a shop machine to cleanup and sharpen!

This model is for a 30Hp tractor like mine. I couldn't get a bigger mulcher either due to my tractor limits. This is considered lite duty! I needed heavy duty.
