Alan,
No offense,

You may not be aware, but this is how your post appears in the monitor of my PC Windows 11!

Is that really your intention?

His posts appear the same here. Happens with only a few users, mostly Alan W. and tradosaurus.

I think they like to use emoji's from sources other than the forum.

6 hours just to get the tractor to the dealer?
No dealers. Factory direct in Tazewell, VA. Haven't had to take it there in 24 years. Simple machine. Great customer service if you need parts.

That being said, plenty of businesses use them and find the arrangement perfectly acceptable, but I'm not on any deadlines.

Good friends of ours farm around 10,000 acres. This time of year, they can't afford to be down for a couple days. They're large enough to get almost immediate service in the field, and have enough equipment to cover should something go down for longer.

All the while, giving you a bill for time and materials. Yes, we know all dealers don't suck but most do. There is not a fleet of tractor mechanics out there to pick from either.
One friend recently spent over 20K on his tractor for tranny and a/c issues. Brought home and sure enough, still broke. Another friend, 2024 Ram 5500 wrecker, sitting 6 months now waiting on parts. Took our vehicle in for an inoperable mirror. After 3 days dealer said its the switch, have to order. Week later, r&r switch, oh that wasn't it, we have to order the mirror. Another week later, oh it's not the mirror must be in the wiring
Well, that's a whole other topic for sure. Very, very few people diagnose problems, but rather guess and replace parts until it works. And of course it's all at your expense.

I've also had an issue with other things breaking after dealer service, because they failed to re-tighten something adjacent to where they're working. That has happened to me on three separate occasions, which come to think about it, is nearly every time I've ever had a machine at the dealer for a repair or upgrade.
Yup, it's pretty frustrating to pay a boat load of $$ to have your tractor out of service for a long time, not get the problem fixed, or have something else broken.

Something, somewhere, is using pictures for numbers and it's getting lost in translation. Probably nothing the user is doing intentionally.

If that's for me, yes, 6 hrs. But that's both drop off and pick up, so two trips. Each trip is 1 hr drive each way (slower with a trailer), plus an hour to hook up the trailer, load and unload the tractor, put the trailer away, and deal with the service department when at the dealer.

Yes, your total time adds up, even with 'local' dealers.

Taking to the dealer or having them come get it is the last option for me. I do everything I can myself before taking that option.

I had to take my 35hp CaseIH to the dealer a few weeks back after I had tried everything I could. It was throwing codes and required a computer with their software to clear them.

I'm 2 miles away so they pick it up, do the work and bring it home while I drink coffee and read TBN.
They do it for a reasonable cost, so supporting the local business is easy.

I'm not into haying and such as you fells are but when I hear someone say "Take it to the dealer" first thing that unfortunately runs thru my mind is how are they going to screw you. I'm lucky my lively hood doesn't depend on my equipment such as HD for example, I have the utmost respect for people such as him and feel the pain when you have to depend on someone else.
Luckily for anything that's had to be done any of my rides or machinery I own, bikes, cars trucks or what have you, I've been able to do it my self.
I've had a Jinma (Chinese) tractor that I had to split a month after I bought it as they had the cam bearing rotated the wrong way so there was no oil going to the top end, first time I've ever done that. Warranty was a lick and a promise.
Goldwing, I had to replace the timing belt as I wasn't sure of the hours on it as well as fork seals. Other miscellaneous stuff as well.
Not bragging, just saying I've been lucky I haven't had to go to the dealer for anything other that the the bi-yearly safety inspection which even than I cringe at.
