Vacuum diesel fluid?

I’ve vacuumed diesel a few times and nothing happened. The Mythbusters vacuumed gasoline which I probably wouldn’t do and still nothing happened.
A shop towel stapled to a stick and soak up any remaining liquid and vacuum.
Hunt4570 has probably already finished this job. Hopefully it went well.

I have one of these I use all the time. Attach a length of tubing and you can suction whatever it is out of a container. I also use it to spray liquids of various sorts directly from the container. Shop around...Ebay, etc.

In the boating world you'll find vacuum extractor for oil change with various capacities. My $100 pump holds 7-quarts, and the internal float vents the vacuum when the capacity is reached so there'almost no chance of a spill.

Interesting thread. I run fuel polishing units on ALL my diesel powered units with 10 micron Racor filters in each one and I run Power Service Bio-Kleen additive in my fuel and I never get any crud in the fuel tanks. If I did, my fuel tanks all have bottom drains on them.

The guy in the boat video is headed for issues as the algae he 'sucked out' will continue to grow without adding a biocide. The post depicting the battery powered pump, you can buy them at Harbor Freight everyday for around 100 bucks, less than 10 on sale. I keep a couple on hand in as much as they fail after a while. They suck everything, including gas and diesel.

Kind of like the 'flush your transmission' debacle. You NEVER flush a slush box, you always CHANGE the fluid (and what is contained in the torque converter as well.

The issue with a trans flush is, it dislodges any accumulated stuff inside and may cause trans failure or erratic shifting plus, the tans filter needs changed as well and getting a 'flush' leaves the old filter still in the tranny pan. Of course that don't apply to a manual box, which I have (6 speed) in my Focus RS. Having said that however, I will renew the gear oil at 100K miles.

Looks like a good little tool. Buy before tariff jacks prices.

Are you sure that in-tank filter doesn't unscrew from the tank bottom? I would think there would be provisions for changing that filter, and usually it just unscrews from the outside of the tank and pulls right out, which of course lets all the fuel and gunk drain out with it.

I can get it to siphon just fine. I just can’t get all the stuff out of the bottom once there’s no more fluid obviously the siphon quits.
empty all the fuel you can then use a pressure washer to clean tank, it will overflow the filler and ge most if not all the debry out, then siphon the water and let air dry for a few days or rig a blower to blow air into tank to speed the drying. Refill with clean filter and fuel with an aditive to help with any residual moisture.

So an update to this:
I finally got around to messing with this, bought a self priming diesel fluid transfer pump kit from amazon for about 80 bucks. Got a bunch of stuff out of the tank, the setup worked perfect. See pictures below. I found no water by the way.
