LS MT242HC
I recently purchased a new MT242HC with Yanmar engine. At about 25 hours, the regen temperature light started flashing, but it would never enter regen mode. I tried holding regen button at both idle and >2000 rpm. Nothing worked. Dealer came to my house and did several things but could not determine root cause. They updated software and forced a regen and I guess it worked so they called it fixed. Then after about 55 hours, 2nd regen tried to start with regen temperature light flashing and once again cannot enter regen mode. Dealer is coming again but I'm afraid they won't fix it. Has anyone experienced this?

Also if anyone can explain how the tractor indicates the different regen modes, that would be great. The manual is not clear. Is a blinking temperature regen light even valid?

A couple things can be happening. To do an active regen while you are using the tractor, the engine needs to be warmed up to normal operating temp and it must be throttled up to at least 2200 RPM. Full throttle is better. If the temp light is flashing it means these conditions are not met. To do a manual (parked) regen with the button, it must be warmed up and the park brake must be on, and the throttle must be all the way back to low idle. Then hold the regen button for at least 3 seconds to start the regen. It will throttle up by itself and it takes about 20 minutes to finish. If the coolant temp sensor doesn't show that the engine is warmed up enough, it won't work so the tech needs to verify it shows the correct engine temp. I have also seen where the park brake was on but the park brake light was not lit. The park brake switch was not working so the ECU did not recognize that the park brake was on. It will also not allow a manual regen if it senses that a regen is not needed if soot load is below 30%. The forced regen can only be done by the dealer with their service tool computer.

Looks like the MT242 regen light sequence behaves a little different than my prior LS tractor. The blinking regen temperature light eventually went away after using tractor for 30 minutes or so at high throttle. It seems a blinking light means tractor is doing active regen. The manual doesn't say this. Can anyone with MT232 or MT242 tell me their experience with regen lights?

I am told by my dealer that the regen lights operate the same as they did before with the LS engine. A blinking light means it wants to do a regen but can't because the engine rpm is too low or the engine and exhaust temps are too low. It doesn't mean it is doing a regen. When it is doing an active regen, the regen light comes on and then the exhaust temp light to warn you that the exhaust temp is higher than during normal operation. They should not be blinking during the regen. If the light stopped blinking after 30 minutes, it means it couldn't successfully do a regen and stopped trying, but will try again after the engine is shut off and restarted. The only difference with the yanmar engine in this model, is that there is now a timer on the dash showing how much time is left until the regen is complete, and a regen counter that the dealer can see with their service tool to show how many regens the tractor has actually completed. Also, it won't allow you to do a manual regen if it doesn't need it (<30%) where the LS engine would allow you to do a manual regen anytime. If it can't do an active regen, the tech needs to monitor all the parameters from the sensors including engine temp, inlet and outlet exhaust temp, engine speed, and soot load to make sure they are reading correctly.
