There are hundreds of factories around the Detroit area making small parts for the auto industry. An older man and wife I knew worked in one, they said working conditions were terrible. Pay was $7.25 per hour.

I have no idea how many, but there are factories all around the USA paying minimum wage, so it's not what I hear on this forum, flipping burgers and stocking shelves.

Poultry workers, paid minimum wage and not allowed breaks to even go to the bathroom, they have to wear diapers.

If the couple worked before 2010, $7.25 was minimum wage. Detroit being one of the most impoverished U.S. cities I could believe it.
It's all location. We shop at a local Lowes store quite a bit and customer service worker asked if I wanted a job. She said $20/hr starting pay. I asked what qualifications she said a warm body. We've been retired over 10 years & don't need a job.

LOL. We sure are getting older, but I wouldn’t trade growing up in my lifetime than growing up in today’s world.
