It's the rod that connects to belt engagement lever

That rod was manufactured as part of a larger linkage that doesn't look like it can be disassembled. I suspect that due to its age and that it is part of a larger one piece linkage, if you are able even able to find it, it will be expensive. That model is no longer manufactured.

On the up side, the rod itself looks in okay shape, but maybe the connection rod guide on the right side is broken off or maybe the handle??

I believe I'd take it to a local welder and (s)he should be able to just fabricate whatever it wrong with it.

Today, gobs of parts are NLA, even parts for newer machines.

It's the 'planned obsolescence' philosophy as well as the buy new philosophy. With old machines today, you'd better be ready to fabricate or machine what you need or pay a high price for someone else to do it.

Find a used/doner deck in a wrecking yard, or MarketPlace?

Looks pretty simple, could you make your own? A piece of threaded rod, heat it up to make the bend, a few nuts and loctite and you could be in business.
