Is the Cyber Truck a Flop?

EV's are as much a fad as the Model T.

EV's are here to stay. Learn it. Live it. Love it!

I don't know, they feel more like a stopgap unless we start ramping up nuclear power production.

I know you love them, and I'm glad, someone has to buy these things. That said, it's going to be a hot minute before you see them dominate rural cold climates.

Otherwise they wouldn't need to shove them down our throats.

It sounds like a $400 million contract was just penned with the goobermint to solve the supply issue.

https://www.npr.org/2025/02/13/g-s1...ion-order-400-million-worth-of-armored-teslas

The State Department was planning to buy $400 million worth of “Armored Tesla” later this year, according to its 2025 procurement forecast, a document outlining projections of anticipated contracts, which was published in December. But after reports emerged on Wednesday of the potential for conflict of interest given Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s prominent role in the Trump Administration, the document was updated, removing mention of Tesla and changing the line item to “Armored Electric Vehicles” instead.

As of late Wednesday, both versions of the 2025 procurement forecast remained available on different State Department webpages. The earlier version that mentions Tesla also lists the planned procurement under NAICS Code 311999, an industry code for miscellaneous food manufacturing, while the newer version, which says it was modified at 9:12 p.m., Feb. 12, lists the revised “Armored Electric Vehicles” procurement under NAICS Code 561613 for “Armored Car Services.” No other changes were made in the document, which contains 319 other line items.

Repression is normal in China: Did Tesla sue, or did the plaintiffs sue and lost ?
" Tesla sued her for defamation for complaining publicly about the car’s brakes — and won."

In China, you never know. And when the author has to write his opinion on Musks politics at home in the States in an article about China, he might as well have put his personal opinion into the rest of the article....

Ah look: An Asian news outlet wouldnt care about Musks politics in the States, look what they say: They name their source by name:

Unless you live in California I didn't realize EV's were being shoved down anyone's throat.

Plenty of Teslas in cold climates. After driving 2 EV's in the past 3 years I finally sold my F250 diesel and will never go back to a ICE vechicle.

Maine loves to follow California's lead; I think they've backed off, but we were on the track for 'all EV by 2030' or whatever the year was.

Maine seems to be the most sane of any of our neighboring states...we've got Vermont on one side and Mass. to the south.

Mrs Henry Ford only drove an EV Detroit Electric.

Happy Wife Happy Life?

I saw the charging station when I Visited the home and the electricity was generated by Fords private onsite hydro plant…

I think it's just as wrong to say they are a fad as to say all vehicles should be EVs. They are a great fit in many cases, and those cases are arguably where car density is the highest. But they are not a fit at all in other cases. The world isn't black and white. In fact, it isn't even shades of gray. It's full living color.
Agreed. It's like the thread here where someone keeps insisting that any truck less than a 1 ton is wimpy.
Seems like suburbanites who don't typically drive very far and have off-street parking and/or a garage where they can set up charging are the are the ones EVs make the most sense for.
For those of us who live out in the boonies with a long drive to anywhere, or where it gets cold it's not such a great option. Probably not a great choice for city dwellers who don't have an easy way to recharge at home either.

Maybe they'll become mainstream someday, probably not in my lifetime though.

Define mainstream. Define "long drive to anywhere".

By definition I live in a rural area (~1200 residents) but am 30 minutes from two larger cities (~65,000).
With EV's having increased range year after year and plenty of superchargers EV's are more adaptable to most of the population.

Speaking of cold environments:
As of September 2024, there were more than 754,000 fully electric vehicles (EVs) in Norway, which is more than the number of gas-powered cars. This makes Norway the first country to have more EVs than gas-powered cars on the road.

Speaking of cold environments:

In Norway there is a heavy subsidy on EV, only condition is that you have to keep it for 5 years. So everyone in the cities are buying new Teslas on taxpayers expense and selling them after 5 years. A guy i know, who had to sell the farm because of poor investments, decided to buy a truckload of cheap 5 year old Teslas in Norway and sell them in Holland. Hes driving them himself because you cant sell a used EV here either.

Guy i know that lives far outside the cities, hates EVs and drives (i think) a HiLux.

You are saying that in Holland, the govt forbids you from selling your EV for its first 5 years? Is that even enforceable? Nuts.

What is the reason for that?
