Good Morning!!!! 40F @ 6:15AM. Sunshine to start, then a few afternoon clouds. High near 65F. NE winds shifting to NW at 10 to 15 mph.
At the last checkup, the doctor recommended I increase fiber in my diet to at least 30 grams/day. Turns out that's a lot of fiber. Wheat bran seems to be the usual source, as found in bran flakes, muffins, and such. The most I've been able to find in grocery stores is in Kellogs All-Bran Buds, at 17 gm per 1/2 cup. While I was out yesterday I stopped at almost a dozen grocery stores looking for some, and only one had it in stock. They were very proud of their boxes, selling each one for $8.99! Amazon was even worse at $13.50/box. On a hunch I checked Walmart's online store and found it offered for "only" $4.99. I'm still smarting over the screwing I got from Walmart over that battery core charge, but I figured if I got 3 boxes I'd save more than the $12 I lost. I had to stop in Home Depot anyway, which is right next door. Being a huge store, I had to walk all the way to the back to find the groceries. Once there, though, there it was, right on the shelf, boxes and boxes of it for $4.99. How can Walmart do that? Another miracle was finding a register with no line and a clerk. My lucky day! Walmart is still a source of last resort, though.
I was a bit sleepy after lunch so worked in a nap for an hour, then got back up and finished the video rear view mirror repair on the van. Had to run another wire from the rear view camera to a backup light, and found the instructions for getting to the bulb in the owner's manual. The tail light housing was held in place by a pair of the wierdest looking nuts I've ever seen. Picture a 5 or 6 mm nut with a 3/4" diameter basket sort of thing rising a couple inches up off one side, nicely plated in some silver metal. I was able to take them off with my fingers, but I'd sure hate to lose one. I'll bet Stallantis gets a king's ransome for one. With everything hooked back up, I found a colorful grid sort of thing displayed on the mirror when the gear selecter was in reverse. I guess it's supposed to help you aim when going backwards, but I'm not sure I'd trust the marks to keep me from hitting something.
After that I made a lentle stew from a recipe in one of Don's favorite cook books, of course using an Instant Pot. Lots of slicing and dicing, but the result was tasty and filling, and had no salt, oil, or sugar in it. All per another recommendation from the checkup, as a cardiac scan found significant plaque buildup in part of my heart. Hence the new cook book, and a move to a healthier diet.
Enjoyed some TV after dinner, watching some of the carryings on from our nations capitol. We sure live in interesting times.
