Good Morning
It’s 32° under a clear sky with a high of 38 predicted.
Yesterday was another day of going through stuff in the house, lots of old pictures and interesting things.

I think that I might bring one of the apothecary drawer units over and fill it with DVD and BluRay discs, but the CD’s will go into storage in the shop.

We have Kidde combo smoke and CO detectors in the old folks home, hardwired and connected to the Kidde smoke detectors in the house.
The house is all electric, geothermal heat and hot water, electric cooking and dryer. The old folks home has a gas boiler for radiant heat and hot water, as well as a gas range. The dryer is electric.
Not sure what I’ll get into today, I need to tidy up in the house where we have been sorting through things, as son and DIL return from vacation today. That also means they will reclaim their dog.
I need to get some steel for a project I’m working on to mount a hydraulic winch on a bucket mount for an excavator. I’ve got all the parts designed and ready for the CNC plasma table, but I don’t have the 5/8” plate to cut them out of.

Not sure if that will happen today, I’ve got to get some 5/4 pine for some window treatments as well. Also have some drywall touch ups to sand and paint. I guess I’ll know tomorrow how the day went….

Spent part of yesterday unhooking the xfinity cable tv boxes and modem. Their prices were getting ridiculous. Changed over to a wireless internet service and YouTube tv. Should save a pretty good chunk of money each month.

Good morning TBN!!
25 degrees this morning and we will be lucky to break 50 here with sun. Temps heading wown like the rest of the Eastern seaboard.
Quiet couple of days around here. Didn't make midnight on NYE. No surprise and mostly spent puttering in my shop and enjoying the warmer temps while we had them.
Probably not a whole lot today. Putter, tinker and sort mostly. Thinking about starting a load to go to the dump in the spring. I have a whole lot of CDs/DVDs software discs that need to be disposed of but not sure how to do that safely and green. Have to do some research. Any input would be welcome

Time for a 2nd cup and get the dog on a walk.

Have a great and safe day!!

35 outside right now, heading to lower 40's. Had to make an airport pickup run. Another earlier than expected arrival. Unfortunate this one did not update in time as to what gate was used, so when I got into the airport arrival was at opposite end. Got my steps in this AM for the day, LOL

Speaking of planes, we are about thirty miles out from the airport, on an edge of a holding/landing pattern. Yesterday was quite busy, and then this was observed.

Never seen planes that close before. Usually same pattern...just a minute or two behind each other. Right after this...it got quiet for a while.

Hope all have a great start to the New Year. Be safe.

Morning all, 35 going to 40 and cloudy.
Worked on the table for a bit, then took the new x27 splitter out for a short workout.
Then off to dinner, which really messed me up :-(

Did drop off some smaller Ash slabs for a friend to make into cutting boards for his lake house.

Today, back to the day job.

Be well,

Amazed how much better the X27 works than my 8lb Maul. So much lighter too!

....

Mike, that looks like a fine old barn ! I’m guessing the roof job had to cost a small fortune! My Grandfathers old barn had the hay grapple , when back in the day he used to haul loose hay with it off of the hay wagon which were drawn by a team of horses ! All his implements were horse drawn ! I can’t even imagine how much work that was !
.....

We stopped haying a few years back. And that meant putting up the hay ceased too. The time and energy just to get the bales up there was too much. I'd actually just hop in the hay wagon and muscle them in through the door. The hay hook was of no use, and the grain elevator was a three person job, one controlling PTO speed off the tractor, one in the hay loft stacking and one feeding the grain elevator. Just could not find the help when needed.

We have some old barn and horse pictures from the original owners family hanging in the farm house foyer, it looked like work back then too. Nothing changes. Just a new set of people on the land.

Here are two old photos, LOL, the stack collection and me getting them into the loft.

Notice all the helpers in the picture?

Propane is heavier than air, natural gas is lighter.
I don’t think that current CO/Smoke detectors will detect the presence of either gas, just the byproducts of combustion.

Informative LCD: Displays real-time CO levels from 30–999 ppm (parts per million) taken from the surrounding air,
using what they say is an electrochemical CO sensor.

smoke detector is photoelectric.
?

good to know about propane and LNG, I have propane but my brother has LNG piped into his community.

Which trail is that wngsprd. Food looks good would you share where that is?
The trail is called Entry Run - Rosser Lamb Loop. Runs up to a ridge line, then into a hollow where the Rosser Lamb house and cemetery are located. Then along the stream down to the John's Rest Cabin, bridge, and parking area. You can follow the trail all the way up to old Pocosin Mission and the Skyline Drive.

All of this is private land on the border of Shenandoah NP...owned by the Potomac AT Club and open to the public. They own about 50 cabins/houses, many of which can be rented by the public for a night or two, for as little as $30...but many are primitive with no running water, just a creek or spring and privy. They're located in VA, WV, MD and PA, and they own and preserve over 2,000 acres.

Came home on US 33 through Gordonsville and ate at a place we've been to many times...the Ice House. Another good place there is Well Hung Vineyards restaurant.
