I'm going to enjoy some of my retirement time at auctions. Maybe I find a deal, maybe not... But at least I'm telling them what I'll pay 🤣

My neighbor just bought a set of SSQA pallet forks at auction... Even though he doesn't have a loader, just in case I had a need to borrow some 🤣

Stelantis has a 200 day supply. It is going to get good for buyers…ugly for dealerships and ugly for autoworkers

I hope Trump does not bail out automakers.

They invested billions in EVs few people want.

Not yet but it's expected.
OK, well let’s not scream “the sky is falling” until it actually is.
There’s no 25% tariff, just a threat of one unless other issues are addressed.

When I look at their offerings their prices seem high.
What/where would be a good reliable link to find inventory supply of various trucks?

Problem with that is our bleeding heart government is too soft on crime for laws to act as a prevention measure. It would also have to be a two way street as most of our illegal guns and drugs come across that border.

So true. Around here, Dodge/Cummins trucks older than 2007 (pre-emissions) with 200,000 miles on them are selling for essentially what they sold for as when they were new. Some people are willing to pay those outrageous prices for a used vehicle just so they don't have to put up with the problematic new engines that are all loaded down with emissions crap.
I have the last run of the 2500 5.9 Cummins pre-emissions truck. It was made in Spring 2007 and they changed to the 6.7 emissions engines mid summer 2007. A fantastic truck and the maintenance is simple: change oil and filter, and air and fuel filters. Having said that, I used to own a 2013 VW TDI with full emissions and never had any problems with it.

IMO, it’s probably one of the best times I have ever seen to be a cash buyer, and it will only get better until inflation and interest rates fall to get more financing buyers in the door.
If I secure financing from my credit union and not the auto maker prior to sale, I am in effect a cash buyer to the dealership. Either way they get full payment upon closing the deal.

But the EVs aren’t the vehicles that are unsold on the lots.

Yes they did. I had a Passat and it was the most fun and best driving car ever. VW just made me a buyback offer I couldn’t refuse.

We had a 2012 TDI Passat, awesome car! 44mpg running 80mph in summer with the A/C on and 38-40mpg commuting and around town. Only issue was a CEL for the DEF sensor, replaced twice under warranty but didn't cause any drivability issues.
We had the S/W upgrade done as I wanted to keep the car and I never really measured any decrease in MPG so I was happy, plus we got a check from VW IIRC.

I would love to have a compact truck with that Motor!

The VW Amarok would be great here if they could build it here.

That’s exactly what my car averaged: 44mpg. I once drove 700 miles on a single tank and it would pass anything on the interstate. I really didn’t experience any problems with it, but I only had it for 4 years and 90K miles. VW offered me $4K less than I paid for it new, so I couldn’t turn down the buy back.

If they sell you a loan, they also profit from that. They buy the loan at x% and then sell it to the buyer at y%, where y > x by 1-3 points.

I get Farm Credit lending if I need it. Don’t think I’ve ever financed through a dealer.

Always heard the dealers gave best offers in December-probably because customers are focused on Christmas and giving, which they should be.

True. But I always get financing in advance from my credit union, then just talk cash with the dealer. But your point is interesting because it does benefit the dealer when you finance with them and possibly give a little more room for price negotiation.

With the truck I bought recently I was given two prices. One for paying cash and $5000.00 higher if using low interest options. I worked as a purchasing agent for a few years and you learn the the best deals are when you know what you want and know how to bypass the salesmen and get to the fleet department.

Sometimes the manufacturer financing, such as GM Financial, has the best deal. When we looked at my wife's 2024 Cadillac XT6, the salesman offered us 1.9% for 36 months and $1,000 off the price through GM Financial. Instead of pulling money out of our cash management account drawing 5% and paying cash, I took that deal. It was also easier to do the paperwork all at one time and place. We signed the paperwork and then went out to eat while they did the make ready. She drove it home that day.

When I sold a couple of appartments and bought a townhouse, I kept enough cash to buy the truck as any borrowed money would then be tax deductible. My bank account will recover in about a year.

My Ram dealer is also selling Ram Tradesman/Big Horn crew cabs with Cummins for 65-72K.

Those are the prices I saw 3+ years ago. Great time to buy a new truck with a 5yr/100K powertrain (not just diesel engine) warranty and 3/36 bumper-bumper warranty.
