I bought a stump grinder, need to cut pto. I want to double check my numbers.

pto lock to stump grinder pto lock is 33 inches. the shaft does appear to be 34 inches.

Based on this. I should cut 2 inches off both shafts and shields is this correct.

and is the lock, the indented part of the pto shaft? green arrow area.

Line the two halves up side by side & see the overlap. Recheck the overlap At full up & full down (side) extensions (you're looking for the longest & shortest distances). You don't want it coming apart (too short) nor do you want it binding (too long). More overlap is fine, as long as there is no binding when the shaft distance is at its shortest.

I got it, the book is a bit different then what the video's show, book wants it lock to lock, people are measuring from lock to end of pto.

There are a lot of methods for determining how to trim a PTO shaft. Regardless of the method used, do some very careful, slow, testing to make sure you got the length right. You may have to remove the safety covers, but SLOWLY raise the three point as you watch the length of the PTO shaft. You do not want the length of the shaft to bottom out before you reach full height with the three point. If the shaft bottoms out before you reach full height you have the likely potential to cause major damage to the rear of the tractor.

I realize that you may never need or intend to fully raise the stump grinder, but no sense in having a potential accident waiting to happen.

Thanks doug.

I successfully did it. (Installing it on the actually grinder was more work then expected).

I have done it before. Wasn't much to it. It was on a Tiller I bought used and was giving the wrong PTO shaft! Took a few days until they found and sent the correct one. Last Tiller they had at the time. Shortened it 10+ inches If I recall. I used a elcheapo HF. Stick! I hooked the tiller to the 3PT. and Measured the distance. Tractor PTO Shaft Pin to the Tiller Shaft Pin.. found out I needed to be 8" shorter. I cut 10" from the Male side at the U-joint. Used a coupling and set it As close as I could and that gave me enough to get a good solid Weld on it. Worked great! until I received the correct one. Another Member needed it which they was welcome to it.
0$ just my time and Truth be it was hard for me to hold a stick. The welds was far from professional and my guess it's still being used today! It's the one on the L. in the Pic..

What does you being a virgin, have to do with your tractors PTO shaft??

SR
I was wondering the same thing.?.? I lost my virginity on Halloween of 98 when I was 16.

Maybe look into becoming a passport bro, and taking a trip to the Philippines to find a good, traditional bride if these western women aren't really feeling you. IDK, but I'd definitely try losing your V as it obviously has you kind of messed up as asking people how to cut your PTO shaft, then immediately volunteering to the world that you've never laid pipe is just kind of odd, and too much info.

Lol. You're one one who puts his lawnmower in his avatar.... 😒
Yes I put my lawn mower in my profile. Did you have a question about it? For 42 you seem very confused about what's going on in this thread. You might want to visit your family doctor. Your pretty young for the cognitive decline you seem to be displaying here.

I'm sorry VirginBill, weren't you the one who went to busting my balls for no reason 2-3 months back? Yeah, I'm sure that goofy, "I've got a lawnmower tractor," avatar was you. I don't even remember what the topic was about. You were goofy enough to set yourself up on here to be the brunt of a joke, and now you're going to cry and throw out a bunch of petty, progressive, over-emotional female type rebuddles.?.? Lol. I'm starting to think that you really are a virgin. Own your manhood, and quit acting like a B word. Learn to do simple man chores like using a cutoff wheel or bandsaw, buy a man tractor, drive a man truck, get some vag, and quit with the halfarse insults. Go hard if you want to come at me. Own your bad. You made a full "ratard" type of comment. You set yourself up to get picked at.

Look, first world internet problems can be a real B. I mean dog on blasted VirginBill!!! WHAT WE GONNA DOOOO!!! Day pickin at me foe bein a virgin.😭 Cry me a river homey. LMAO!
