I bought a stump grinder, need to cut pto. I want to double check my numbers.

pto lock to stump grinder pto lock is 33 inches. the shaft does appear to be 34 inches.

Based on this. I should cut 2 inches off both shafts and shields is this correct.

and is the lock, the indented part of the pto shaft? green arrow area.

Line the two halves up side by side & see the overlap. Recheck the overlap At full up & full down (side) extensions (you're looking for the longest & shortest distances). You don't want it coming apart (too short) nor do you want it binding (too long). More overlap is fine, as long as there is no binding when the shaft distance is at its shortest.

I got it, the book is a bit different then what the video's show, book wants it lock to lock, people are measuring from lock to end of pto.

There are a lot of methods for determining how to trim a PTO shaft. Regardless of the method used, do some very careful, slow, testing to make sure you got the length right. You may have to remove the safety covers, but SLOWLY raise the three point as you watch the length of the PTO shaft. You do not want the length of the shaft to bottom out before you reach full height with the three point. If the shaft bottoms out before you reach full height you have the likely potential to cause major damage to the rear of the tractor.

I realize that you may never need or intend to fully raise the stump grinder, but no sense in having a potential accident waiting to happen.

Thanks doug.

I successfully did it. (Installing it on the actually grinder was more work then expected).

I have done it before. Wasn't much to it. It was on a Tiller I bought used and was giving the wrong PTO shaft! Took a few days until they found and sent the correct one. Last Tiller they had at the time. Shortened it 10+ inches If I recall. I used a elcheapo HF. Stick! I hooked the tiller to the 3PT. and Measured the distance. Tractor PTO Shaft Pin to the Tiller Shaft Pin.. found out I needed to be 8" shorter. I cut 10" from the Male side at the U-joint. Used a coupling and set it As close as I could and that gave me enough to get a good solid Weld on it. Worked great! until I received the correct one. Another Member needed it which they was welcome to it.
0$ just my time and Truth be it was hard for me to hold a stick. The welds was far from professional and my guess it's still being used today! It's the one on the L. in the Pic..

What does you being a virgin, have to do with your tractors PTO shaft??

SR
I was wondering the same thing.?.? I lost my virginity on Halloween of 98 when I was 16.

Maybe look into becoming a passport bro, and taking a trip to the Philippines to find a good, traditional bride if these western women aren't really feeling you. IDK, but I'd definitely try losing your V as it obviously has you kind of messed up as asking people how to cut your PTO shaft, then immediately volunteering to the world that you've never laid pipe is just kind of odd, and too much info.
