yea it will be fine, just start the truck before connecting. it won't sit at 50amp long, the battery is pretty small, mine is just a 4 way pin, not sure why you wouldn't enable charging if your running a 7 pin, there is no charger on these trailers.
I'm using a 4-pin flat to 7 pin adapter but not sure where to pick up a switched 12VDC at the rear end of the Dakota pickup for charging. Could tee into the tail light circuit but the lights are manual only so would have to remember to turn the lights on.

Are you talking about the battery for the electric brakes emergency actuation when you say its "pretty small". I will not have electric brakes on the new trailer.

i think you are confusing me, the trailer has brakes but your using a 4 flat converter? so you have 2 batteries? how are you charging the emergency battery now?

i can throw a meter on mine, but I remotely doubt its pulling 130 amps. the wiring for my winch is 2x the size of this and barely pulls 100 on full load
Would be interesting to hear your test results!

I'm getting confused here also. My old trailer used a 4-pin connector and, no, doesn't have brakes nor will my new one.

if the new trailer has a 7pin connector there is a strong chance it will have brakes and a breakaway battery, I haven't seen a trailer with no brakes come with a 7 pin. are you sure it has no brakes?

I have good luck with a solar maintainer as the trailer is some distance from power...

Added a second battery to my truck and put in a high output single pulley alternator specified for ambulance duty...

No brakes but has 7-pin and onboard charger as shown here:
I think you better wait till you get the trailer. I don't know what that box is he is touching, I think its a charger based on the wiring going to battery etc. I don't have that in my unit. I have the pump and the yellow control, you have some addons over me.

LOL you said it had a charger. you may want to just setup the 7 pin for charging if your not close to an outlet, being a durango or dakota, I would think it would be setup to have 7 pin wiring from the factory.

I can give you a link to a 30w solar mppt charger if you want to go that way as well. it works well.
