Wife & I have had credit cards (almost) forever, always pay balance in full (autopay) every month, never ever paid a dime in interest or penalty. Cheaper than cash because 1%-2% cashback goes into a mutual fund. We always check bill each month to be sure charges are correct. We have made a few charge backs for merchandise not received or defective.
Someone did steal my card number many years ago for $2,400 but no problem, cc co. removed charge.
When in business best thing I ever did was accept credit cards. Processor charged 2.7% + 35c/transaction. I never increased my charges or lowered price for cash because the increased business more than offset fee. I did make a sign no charges for less than $5.
I use my card all the time and get back $500+/year and have protection cash or check doesn't have and have statements of everything I bought. We've never had a debit card and never will.

Back when business account large format book checks were sent to the bank for pickup grandfathers car business had a substantial withdrawal made out to cash listing ficticious auto purchase.

Turns out a bank branch employee took a page of 3 checks from the middle and waited a period and then wrote and cashed one and attempted to cash a second one and was caught…

It was an inside job and the Bank pressed full charges and made the business whole…

Now i feel old. We just ordered a leather sofa and storage trunk from a local furniture store.
I could tell over the phone salesman had a NY accent so I asked if he was from Manhattan. "Queens" he said. I said I got to see the 1964 World's Fair twice...first with parents then later my grandparents...but I guess before his time. He said "You know that great big Earth metal globe at the entrance? My Dad likes to tell the story he got arrested for climbing it when he was a little kid".
Wow. I was actually at the 1964 Worlds Fair in NYC also. But I just a toddler in a stroller so I don’t remember much.

It was the best, shame you don't remember much.

Same here, except for no autopay. I like to be able to review bills before I pay them. I pay most bills by check so I guess that makes me old. :ROFLMAO:

I do too, but due to the deteriorating performance of the USPS, I have placed some time-sensitive bills on autopay (through the credit card). This helps keep from having our phone or internet shut off when the mail is untimely.

Only mortgage with credit union paid from credit union as problem resolution would be one stop should there be a problem.

I was recently invited to take a tour through the old farmhouse I grew up in. I was astounded at how small everything was. Even the trek to the barn had shrunk.
When we were kids, my dad had a tree cut down in the back yard. He had them leave the stump really tall, and built a ladder and pirate ship crow's nest on top of the stump for us. Then he dug a huge circle around the stump and filled it with beach sand, and lined the outside ring with huge boulders. I remember looking up at that pile and climbing those rocks. Getting way up in that crow's nest and using the spyglass to spot who knows what....

When he passed away, I was cleaning up the yard. The huge boulders barely came halfway up my thigh and the crow's nest was at my chest level. Also, while it seemed to take hours to get to the back of the yard where it all was located was only about 75'.

Great memories of being young. Harsh reality of growing up. Kind of a Peter Pan moment.
